Student sues teacher for derogatory comments made towards Christians. The teacher has made various comments about Christianity regarding particular views towards homosexuality, birth control, Viagra, teenage sexual activities, and abortion. After listening to the teacher talk like this, the student said enough is enough. He took a tape recorder into class and recorded the teacher making these comments. The lawyer has said that if the teacher is removed from the classroom that they will not seek monetary damages.

This is something we don’t really pay enough attention to. All the stories lately with the teachers sleeping with students, all the abuse scandals, and the influence has always been there, just most of the time over looked. Where does it end? When do we require psych exams and back ground checks before we allow adults to interface with our children? How many schools already do extensive back ground checks and yet this still happens?

I was homeschooled from 5th grade – 8th grade and then again from 10th grade on. When we moved, I decided to take my 9th grade year in public school to meet new friends, play football, that kind of thing. This presented various issues. The teachers tried to make me look stupid after finding out I had been home schooled. I was given bad grades, and yet my teachers asked me questions when they did not know the answer. The computer teacher asked me when she couldn’t find things, or needed help fixing a computer and I still got a C in Computer Ed…

This story of the teacher being sued brings back thought from those times. Beyond all the other issues, we were in history class and the teacher actually told us that the reason Mexico had so many problems, the reason Mexico is such a poor nation etc… was that they were all Catholic. I over looked that then, but what kind of message does that send to a kid that doesn’t know any better?
