On 30 Jul 10, FOX News reported that a young woman talked a would be robber out of taking the store's cash by asking to talk to the man about Jesus. The report related that “Nayara Goncalves, 20, was alone in the store in Pompano Beach, Fla., on July 23 when an unidentified man displayed a gun and demanded cash.”
The report said that after the man demanded money, Goncalves said to the man, "You can do whatever you want, but I'm just going to talk to you about Jesus, my God, before you leave."
On 29 Jul 10, a copy of the exchange, apparently captured on store surveillance cameras, was posted to YouTube.com. After Goncalves told the man she is a Christian, he responded, “So am I and I really hate doing this.” The man later explained he needed the money to keep from being evicted. After further conversation, the man apologized and left as Goncalves continued to urge the man to go to church and seek friends who could help him.
On 30 Jul 10, the Miami Herald reported that the same man went on to rob a Payless Shoe Store only a couple of hours later. According to the Miami Herald, Israel Camacho, 37, was the man that was captured by security cameras in both stores. The report further related that Camacho is a ``serial robber,'' and has been in and out of prison for such crimes as forging documents and grand theft.
