As luck would have it, we were on our way home, passing Acacia Park in Colorado Springs, when we noticed the amphitheater was lit up with a crowd mingling in front of it. We decided to investigate and found as we approached a youth band playing Christian music. The crowd responded to the wonderful talent of the band with arms raised and swaying, some bouncing to the beat of the band.
As someone passed by, we inquired as to what was happening. Our question, much by chance, was directed to Rev. Kirsten Barlow, Associate Pastor of Sunrise Church. Rev Barlow told us the event involved seven churches and was a project of a high school senior. The event included several bands and a dance troupe from the different area churches.
Rev Barlow related that the event included a potluck shared with everyone in the park; the young, the old, the fortunate and those in need. It was an event for everyone to come together in a night of sharing and worship.
By any measure, the event was moving in the desire to promote unity in Christ. On this evening, during the waining days of September; Presbyterians, Evangelicals, Methodists, Catholics, Baptists and Non-Denominationals came together to feed the poor and celebrate the Word of the Lord. It was also exciting to see the event lead by and attended by so many teenagers and young adults.
Such events require many hands and many hands came together to create a wonderful night of worship, music, sharing and prayer. We can only pray that this event will inspire more to come.
