COLORADO SPRINGS – Churches and pro-life organizations in Colorado Springs are preparing to support the fall 2011 40 Days for Life campaign. The campaign will begin 28 Sep 2011 and will continue through 6 Nov 2011.

According to the 40 Days for Life web site, the campaign “is a focused pro-life effort that consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil, and 40 days of community outreach.” Part of the objective is to establish a constant presence in front of Planned Parenthood to pray for the children who will die at the hands of abortionists within Planned Parenthood facilities. Pro-life advocates who are unable to spend time on the side walk near the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic are asked to spend time in prayer for the babies and their mothers. Prayers are also requested for those who staff the abortion clinics, that they may be guided to a respect for life.

The Colorado Springs 40 Days for Life web site also contains guidance for those who will venture to the sidewalk near the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic located 3480 Centennial Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO. Participants are instructed where they can park and are reminded of the Colorado Bubble Law. The law, cited as Revised CODE 5-3-10, states, “No person shall knowingly obstruct, detain, hinder, impede, or block another person's entry to or exit from a health care facility. No person shall knowingly approach another person within 8ft of such person, unless such other person consents, for the purpose of passing a leaflet or handbill to, displaying a sign to, or engaging in oral protest, education, or counseling with such other person in the public way or sidewalk area within a radius of 100ft from any entrance door to a healthcare facility.

Sidewalk prayer participants are warned to remain on the sidewalk and to not risk trespassing on private property near the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. Yellow lines are drawn on the roadways to clearly indicate boundaries between public and private road space.

The Colorado Springs 40 Days for Life web site states, “While all aspects of 40 Days for Life are crucial in our effort to end abortion, the most visible component is the peaceful prayer vigil outside the local Planned Parenthood facility.” Anyone interested in participating are instructed to sign up by clicking the "Vigil Schedule" link at the top of the Colorado Springs 40 Days for Life web page.
