OPINION: On 13 Oct 2011, Representative Nancy Pelosi (D – CA) stated, “When Republicans vote for this bill today, they will be voting to say that women can die on the floor.” Representative Pelosi made her comments, broadcast by C-SPAN, concerning H.R. 358, Protect Life Act. The Act is designed to ensure no funds may be authorized or appropriated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), to include such forms as tax credits and cost-sharing reductions, which could be used to pay for abortion or abortion coverage. The Act was written with the intent to prevent loopholes opened by PPACA.

According to a 13 Oct 2011 LifeNews.com report, “Members voted 251-172 for the pro-life legislation, with 236 Republicans and 15 Democrats supporting the bill and 170 Democrats and two Republicans voting against it.” The article went on to quote an Obama administration statement which stated, “The Administration strongly opposes H.R. 358 because, as previously stated in the Statement of Administration Policy on H.R. 3, the legislation intrudes on women’s reproductive freedom and access to health care and unnecessarily restricts the private insurance choices that women and their families have today.”

The White House statement supporting women's reproductive freedom, a euphemism for abortion, appears to contradict a 2009 statement by President Obama who said to a joint session of Congress, “And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up—under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.” The current White House stance and the actions of certain legislators reveal the intent to protect loopholes which will allow taxpayer subsidy of the practice which kills children while the child is within the womb of the mother.

The demonizing of Republicans by Pelosi, and by extension all pro-life supporters, is an attempt to portray pro-life advocates as having no compassion for women. Pelosi essentially states that life for children is death for women and this is the design of the pro-life advocate. Unfortunately, Pelosi conveniently ignores the risks abortion poses to the mother and the fact that a successful abortion always leads to the death of a child.

The culture which Pelosi advocates is one where the killing of children is defined as healthcare. The art of politics appears to be found in the twisting of words such that reality and morality are obscured. It is within this fog that millions of lives have been lost. While it is the hand of the abortionist which is the final step to the death of innocent children, there are many along the path who are responsible though they are not there in the room. The words which are said, the votes which are cast, and all which flows from there are responsible for the outcome. Blessed are those who pray and seek for hearts to be turned and that the truth will be heard so that young lives can be saved before they are taken within their mother's womb.
