Prayer-Soldier writes "On 2 Nov 09, the Dakota Voice reported that a Planned Parenthood Director resigned and now supports the pro-life group, Coalition for Life. According to the editorial, Abby Johnson, an 8 year employee of Planned Parenthood, made the decision after watching an ultrasound of an abortion procedure.
In a 2 Nov 09 report, KBXT quoted Johnson as saying, “"I just thought I can't do this anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that's it." The report also related that Johnson had misgivings over the change in the Planned Parenthood business model. Johnson said, “The money wasn't in family planning, the money wasn't in prevention, the money was in abortion and so I had a problem with that.”
According to a 5 Nov 09 Lifenews.com report, Johnson was pressured to meet abortion quotas. Johnson was quoted as saying, “There are definitely client goals. We'd have a goal every month for abortion clients and for family planning clients." Johnson apparently struggled with the issue because of her Episcopalian upbringing.
After Johnson's resignation and alignment with the Coalition for Life, Planned Parenthood filed for a restraining order to prevent Johnson from revealing confidential information obtained while working as the director of the Bryn, Texas, Planned Parenthood Center. In a 4 Nov 09 Lifenews.com report, it was related that District Judge J.D. Langley signed the request for a temporary injunction and schedule a 10 Nov 09 hearing on the issue.
In the Lifenews.com report, Johnson stated, “Definitely the most lucrative part of their business was abortions." She said, "One of the things that kept coming up was how family planning services were really dragging down the budget, and family planning services include education about contraceptives. It was a drain on the budget, but abortion services were really running up the budget and that was keeping the center afloat.”
In a 4 Nov 09 World Net Daily post, Johnson related, “Planned Parenthood is an organization that really runs on fear. If somebody crosses them, they are quick to threaten that person. I've worked for them for a long time and seen them threaten lawsuits multiple times," she said. "I'm not sure what they're scared of. When I first got the restraining order, I was so surprised. My initial response was, what do they think I know? What are they feeling guilty about?”
The WND report included a comment from Johnson about the climate of the clinic. “There's no religion and there's no spirituality in an abortion clinic. There can't be," she said. "Whatever side you are on, pro-life or pro-choice, it is what it is – and that's taking a human life.”
