Jesus said, "Again, [amen,] I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:19-20)
Part of the blessing of prayer is that we may pray together and for one another. It is a means by which we may come together in community, to offer praise and worship to the One who created us, to offer thanks for the many blessings He gives, to present petitions for the blessings of those for whom we pray and to present petitions for assistance with our needs. It is also a means by which we may listen for how He guides our hearts so that we may participate in the accomplishment of His will.
As we join in prayer, we fulfill His commandments to love Him and one another (Matthew 22:36-40). It is a means to join our hearts with His; to love Him, receive Him and to love and bless one another. As we join in prayer, we bring Him within our hearts.
Through the noise of the world, we often forget we have this blessing. We often only remember when we are in need and realize some challenges can only be resolved with His power and strength. He hears our prayers and responds to every one, but we should also remember to offer our thanks and praise for His answer.
Can we imagine the world if all were joined in prayer for what is right and just, that His will may be done on earth as it is in heaven? Can we imagine the blessings within our heart as we rejoice in Him? Can we imagine how we might be moved if we listen for Him? We do not need to imagine, we only need to take the opportunity He offers to us each day. We should also remember that we do not need to wait until we are physically together to join with another in prayer, for He hears every heart, though a distance may be between us, for we are joined by and share the blessings of His Holy Spirit.
Blessed are those who pray to Him, for He hears and answers with love.
