Sowing for His Day
Scripture:
The land that was desolate and impassable shall be glad, and the wilderness shall rejoice, and shall flourish like the lily. It shall bud forth and blossom, and shall rejoice with joy and praise: the glory of Libanus is given to it: the beauty of Carmel, and Saron, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the beauty of our God. Strengthen the feeble hands, and confirm the weak knees. Say to the fainthearted: Take courage, and fear not: behold your God will bring the revenge of recompense: God himself will come and will save you. Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall be free.
And the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and shall come into Sion with praise, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. (Isaiah 35:1-6a, 10)
Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth: patiently bearing till he receive the early and latter rain. Be you therefore also patient and strengthen your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Grudge not, brethren, one against another, that you may not be judged. Behold the judge stands before the door. Take, my brethren, for example of suffering evil, of labor and patience, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. (James 5:7-10)
Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ: sending two of his disciples he said to him: Are you he that are to come, or look we for another? And Jesus making answer said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen. The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me. And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What went you out into the desert to see, a reed shaken with the wind? But what went you out to see, a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings. But what went you out to see, a prophet? Yea I tell you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before my face, who shall prepare your way before you. Amen I say to you, there has not risen among them that are born of women a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (Matthew 11:2-11)
Reflection:
Some may lament, all is lost for the rulers are evil and their underlings torment the people. Others may cry out as they suffer oppression at the hands of the politically powerful and the ideologue. Still, others may suffer as the work of their hands and the fruits of their labors are unjustly taken from them. What remains unfair in this day will not always remain, for a time shall come where He will survey what was done and what was not. The heart filled with trouble will be soothed. He will see who has faced injustice and He will set right that which fell wrong at the hands of the arrogant and the wicked.
Blessed are those who spread blessings from their labors and through the kindness of their hearts, for He will see what was accomplished through love and kindness. The challenge of this world shall be swept away so that all may know the blessings which He desires for all the children of His creation. He sent forth the One who would bring salvation and His promises He shall keep.
The seasons of the land come and pass as the seasons of life progress from days of youth until the days of elder-hood. All is a time of learning and all is a time of opportunity. What is sown through kindness will be remembered and with patient persistence shall yield fruit beyond the day. What many do together according to His Word will magnify blessings, but it is the choice of the people as to what purpose they put their hands as they wait for Him. Blessed are those who do not waste their pursuits, but sow for the day where the gates of eternity shall be before them.
Many hearts search for the truth, but look in different places. Some come forth and study and ask for signs of the Lord, but fail to comprehend His presence which is all around them. Some believe He is there, but do not know where to look for Him. Still others yearn for Him, but are blinded by what is demanded of them by the world. Blessed are those who have found Him where has always sought to be, within them, within the depths of their hearts.
The children of His creation will not find Him where He is not. They will not find Him in money. They will not find Him in possessions. They will not find Him in the seats of political leaders. They will not find him in idle pleasures or intoxicants. Those who seek Him will find Him in prayer, for it is through prayer that He reveals Himself to the heart.
It is right to be careful to ask who might be before us, for we have been warned of the wolves in the clothing of sheep which shall be sent to us. We have been warned of the one who will offer to us everything with a smile and twisted words, but the price will be our soul and death will be in his hands. The One who was sent to save us asks only that we follow the commandments to love Him and one another; therefore if what we hear, if what we see, if what we feel is not founded in love, then, it does not come from the one true God. Through prayer, He will open our eyes. Through prayer, He will open our ears. Through prayer, He will provide us with the strength and means to do His work.
While our hands are young, we are tempted to waste them on the pursuits of the world; but the time of youth is less than we believe and the moments by which we may use our talents for the blessings of those around us is fleeting. Before we realize, the world will take its toll upon us; therefore, let us not waste time wandering empty paths, let us first share in His Word, let us bring His blessings in our heart and let us share the fruits of our labors to bring peace to our day.
We celebrate His birth, we reflect upon His Word, we remember His suffering, we mourn His death and we rejoice in His resurrection. It is He who came to the world, the One heralded by John the Baptist; it is He who came to us so that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit, that we may rejoice in the blessings of love which may fill us, the blessings we may receive only through Him. Let us, then, not seek Him where He is not, but seek Him where He desires to be, within our hearts. Through prayer, let us invite Him in, for as we do, we will know no greater love than what can come from Him.
As we receive Him, let us not forget those around us. Let us remember them in prayer and ask that they too will be exposed to His light so that they too shall see, so that they too shall hear, so that every heart may be healed and filled with the blessings of great joy. Through prayer, let our voice join with others so that what was one voice in the wilderness may now become a chorus inviting all the blessings of heaven to enter every soul. As we pray in faith, as we pray in love, so shall the days of love be brought to us through Him.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
