The Blessing of His Wisdom
Scripture:
And the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, saying: Ask what you will that I should give you.
And now, O Lord God, you have made your servant king instead of David, my father: and I am but a child, and know not how to go out and come in; and your servant is in the midst of the people which you have chosen, an immense people, which cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore to your servant an understanding heart, to judge your people, and discern between good and evil. For who shall be able to judge this people, your people, which is so numerous? And the word was pleasing to the Lord, that Solomon had asked such a thing. And the Lord said to Solomon: Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life nor riches, nor the lives of your enemies, but have asked for yourself wisdom to discern judgment; behold I have done for you according to your words, and have given you a wise and understanding heart, in so much that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall arise after you. (1 Kings 3:5, 7-12)
And we know that to them that love God all things work together unto good: to such as, according to his purpose, are called to be saints. For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be made conformable to the image of his Son: that he might be the Firstborn amongst many brethren. And whom he predestined, them he also called. And whom he called, them he also justified. And whom he justified, them he also glorified. (Romans 9:29-30)
The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goes, and sells all that he has, and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls, who when he had found one pearl of great price, went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it. (Matthew 13:44-46)
Reflection:
Wisdom requires knowledge and knowledge requires study, but study is not enough, for knowledge to yield wisdom, one must have comprehension. Our comprehension of what is much greater than us is challenging. He is the greatest teacher, therefore, if we are to comprehend the wisdom of His Word, we must pray for His instruction and the gift of understanding.
The selfish heart will seek selfish things, but the selfless heart will seek wisdom from which to yield blessings to those who surround them. Ambition of selfish desires often yields the path of sin, but the ambition of selflessness yields the path of blessings which may be shared. The wisdom of His Word is the path of charity and love. As He taught us, the whole law and the prophets depend upon the commandments to love (Matthew 22:36-40).
It is the way of the world to believe in the power of force and violence, but it is the wisdom of God to create love and charity as power which is so much greater. The one who seeks position over others must always look over their shoulder for the one who will take from them. In His kingdom, there is no fear, for every heart is filled with charity and love so that the ways of evil have no place to root.
He created all the children of His creation such that they may have the power of love and work together to achieve what is right and just. All are given gifts from which to share to achieve His purpose. All are called to His goodness, but not all will heed His call. We were created in His image, therefore, we have the ability to achieve His goodness. The choice as to what we desire to achieve, He has left to us.
Blessed are those who understand the blessings of His Word and the path to which it leads. Those exposed to His wisdom will find a treasure which feeds the heart and nourishes the soul. Blessed are those who study His Word, for through it, they will learn of their Creator, His plan for the children of His creation and what awaits in His kingdom. No coin of the realm, no gem of the world holds a fraction of the value of His Word. Things are but things, for they shall decay, but His Word is forever and the wisdom which it contains is the light for the path to His eternal kingdom.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
