Dear brethren,
As all of you know the majority of Americans have spoken loudly, and like it or not, we have a new president elect. I know many of you are probably surprised, and many of you are disappointed. After all, many brothers and sisters spent countless hours in prayer, and many others fasted to keep Barack Obama from becoming president. Protestants and Catholics joined hands in a common cause and produced resources that instructed believers in very moving ways.
Believers were very active in promoting the pro-life movement, and those within the Church were reminded countless times to vote pro-life. Yet, in spite of all that effort, Barack Obama is president elect. Why? Did the prayers of so many Christians go unanswered? Did not God want a pro-life president? Did not God want America to have a president that would make sure that our country would follow His teachings? What exactly went wrong?
First, let us be reassured that God did not ignore the prayers of the pro-life movement. As most of you already know, Christ’s mercy endures forever and he has not, nor will He ever abandon His people. As many of you know, God is still on the side of all who believe in Him. So then, we should perhaps ask ourselves; were we on God’s side? Were we trying to accomplish His purpose?
That the killing of unborn children is an abomination against God is understood to those who believe in Christ. It is the responsibility of every Christian to defend the unborn, and to stand by idly would be an abomination. However, as we defend those who cannot defend themselves, we have to ensure that we do not loose sight of what the main purpose of the Church is. After all, we as a Church should focus our attention on spreading the message of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, while saving the life of unborn children is of great importance, of even greater importance is sharing the Gospel so that souls may be saved. By that I mean, the Church should take this time to reassess the approach that it has taken over the years when protecting the unborn. For what would we have accomplished if we save the life of many, but fail to bring about the message of salvation in a way that it changes the heart of those involved with the abortion travesty and other sinful lifestyles?
We could reverse Roe v. Wade, but until we win the souls of those involved with such a heinous crime, we will not have accomplished our first and foremost mission as a Church. So perhaps we should pour the financial and other resources that have gone towards litigation and lobbying, towards the spreading of the Gospel in this great country of ours.
After all, I have heard many people comment on the decaying morals of the U.S., but few are looking at the potential that we have for a Holy Spirit inspired renewal in our country. Imagine pouring all that money and resources toward making the message of mercy and love part of the American people?
If anything, we should have learned from this election is that, our nation is craving for a message of peace, hope, and reconciliation. No longer do Americans want to be divisive. No longer is forcing ones views on another acceptable or welcomed. I wonder, is it possible that we can tap into that need that Americans have for hope and freedom as Obama did? Do most Americans want to be told how to live their life or do they crave direction so that they can live their life?
I invite all of you who have invested your energy on making the pro-life movement a force to be reckoned with, to channel a majority of your energy and resources to ministering those who favor abortion. The pro-life movement has the resources in place to flood the empty streams that encompass the life of many Americans. The pro-life movement has the resources to inundate the American landscape with Christ’s cleansing waters.
This is the only way we can truly save the life of the unborn, and the only hope for those who blindly destroy the innocent. This is the only way that we can achieve victory on this spiritual war that we are facing. After all, why should we play by satan’s rules and fight him on his own playground (the courts), when we can wage war against him in God’s turf. Think about this my brethren, should the Church fight its own battle, or should it defer its authority to the government and the court system? Pray about this, and talk to others in the pro-life movement. Perhaps it is time for the pro-life movement to bring about change in a more positive and effective way?
In addition, I ask that you please pray for President-elect Obama, so that the Holy Spirit may change his views about abortion. Pray that God may guide all his decisions, and pray that he and his family may be protected from harm and danger.
Your brother in Christ,
Rev. Abad Perez
