Why is it so easy for us to sin? Do we even understand why we sin? Even when we recognize that what we do or what we may fail to do is not consistent with the Word of our Lord, why do we find it so easy to act as we do and fail to abide by His Word? If we love our Lord so, why do we ignore Him so?
We are like infants in the presence of a patient parent. Even under the watchful gaze of our mother or father, our desires are so strong that we ignore warning and invite punishment to have our way.
And so it is with mankind that we so desire to have our own way that we sin. We sin, though we hear the Word. We sin, though we read the Word. We sin, though we are told the Word. We sin, though we teach the Word. Despite all that God has done for us that we may understand, live and rejoice in the Word; we fall short. How thankful should we be, then, that our Lord sacrificed Himself for us that our sins may be forgiven through Him?
Dear Lord, in my desires, I have sinned against You, my loved ones and my neighbors. By myself, I cannot win the battle against temptation and sin. By myself, I might try, I might even have success from day to day, but I will ultimately fail.
My only hope is in You, dear Lord. My only hope is in Your grace, Your Love, Your mercy, Your peace and Your forgiveness. In all Your patience with me and kindness, I humbly offer my thanks and praise. I am not worthy to receive You, but only say the word and I shall be cleansed and healed. Amen.
Peace be with you,
Nam Eno
