In a church, a mother comes to visit, to share in the worship and praise of God and her Lord and Savior. She has traveled many a mile to be with her daughter, who is lying in a hospital. The mother comes to the church in prayer, a stranger, yet sharing in community of the flock of God.
As the commentator asks if there are any visitors to be welcomed and asks them to stand, she sits silently, not wanting to draw attention. When the commentator invites all to great each other, a man extends a hand to this visiting woman, and she acknowledges with a smile she is a visitor, but....
The man smiled with an understanding nod, welcomed her and inquired where she was from. When she replied she was from a distant state, he inquired as to the nature of her visit, to which she replied she was there to visit her daughter in the hospital.
The man could not help but notice in the hands of the woman, cards with different prayers, some printed, some hand written. He noticed one with a title, Novena for the Intercession of Saint Faustina. The prayer reads:
O Jesus, who filled Blessed Faustina
with profound veneration for Your boundless Mercy,
deign, if it be Your Holy will,
to grant me, through her intercession,
the grace for which I fervently pray...
My sins render me unworthy of Your Mercy,
but be mindful of the spirit, of sacrifice and self-denial of Sister Faustina,
and reward her virtue by granting the petition which,
with childlike trust, I present to You through her intercession.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
Hail, Mary! Full of grace,
The Lord is with thee;
Blessed are thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Saint Faustina,
pray for us.
As all were about ready to leave, the man inquired, if the daughter of the woman was in need of prayer. The woman replied that prayers would be appreciated. The man inquired as to the name of the daughter, to which the woman replied, Jenny. The man also asked of what Jenny needed to be healed, to which the woman replied, stomach cancer. The man told the woman he would join her in prayer.
The woman came to a church in another state, in another city, to pray for her daughter. In her prayers, she also asked for a Saint to pray with her. In that moment, a man, a stranger, noticed and reassured the woman that he would join her prayer as well.
Jesus told us that wherever two or more are joined in prayer, that prayer would be answered. Will you join this woman, this man, this Saint in prayer so that the will of God be done in the healing of Jenny?
Dear Lord, You called us to love one another. In that love, we should seek to care for each other, yet, there is much of this world we cannot do for ourselves; therefore, we ask You for the healing of Jenny. Dear Lord, we know there are many things of which we must be healed and many ways of healing we do not always perceive. We know there are many purposes of our afflictions which we do not always understand. We pray that Your will be done for Jenny, her mother and all about them; their family, their friends and all who may never know or see them, yet raise their hearts and voices in loving prayer. Amen.
May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
