Many blessings to all,
An often quoted moral observation by the novelist, Sir Walter Scott, reads, “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!” Deceit surrounds us in a variety of ways and we must be constantly on guard for its consequences. Once revealed, deceit destroys trust and without trust, divisions are driven. We may think deceit may be the harmless realm of jokes and pranks, but, Eve discovered that it just as easily becomes the source of our ruin (Genesis 3:13).
We often think of deceit in terms of how we are victimized by it, but if we are honest, we might be surprised how we too often victimize ourselves. We victimize ourselves both through deception of others and through the deception of self. We may justify our little deceits for a variety of reasons, but of little things grow things much larger. We must recognize that deceit is the playground of the evil one, not only for the mischief it causes, but for the divisions it generates once revealed. Many a philosopher has focused upon the ravages of deceit. Those who promote character counsel as to the damage deceit releases upon the whole of our reputation, damage which may never be undone.
Deceit is the instrument of the evil one to drive division among people and the destruction of faith. Deceit is the vocation of false prophets, it spills forth to nourish conflict, it leads us down the path which leads to destruction of our lives and the destruction of our very souls. So easily is deceit practiced; wary we must be, but through faith and prayer, God will guide us to the path of truth and light.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, guide me in my journey so that I may walk in the light of Your truth.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, bless me with the protection of the Holy Spirit that I do not fall victim to the deceivers who seek to lead me astray.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, guide me so that I do not easily fall into the practice of deceit so that I am not a source of harm.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, take my hand in my journey so that I do not deceive myself through misguided rationalizations of this world.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, grant us the wisdom to see through those who would deceive us and grant us the strength that we may help those who are deceived to see Your truth.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, guide us so that we may be examples of Your truth and love so that the deceivers are exposed and divisions among Your children may be healed.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, we ask that you guide the faithful together that we may support each other in works of love and the truths of Your Word.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
Like a crazed archer scattering firebrands and deadly arrows Is the man who deceives his neighbor, and then says, “I was only joking.” For lack of wood, the fire dies out; and when there is no talebearer, strife subsides. What a bellows is to live coals, what wood is to fire, such is a contentious man in enkindling strife. The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one\'s inmost being. Like a glazed finish on earthenware are smooth lips with a wicked heart. With his lips an enemy pretends, but in his inmost being he maintains deceit; When he speaks graciously, trust him not, for seven abominations are in his heart. A man may conceal hatred under dissimulation, but his malice will be revealed in the assembly. He who digs a pit falls into it; and a stone comes back upon him who rolls it. The lying tongue is its owner\'s enemy, and the flattering mouth works ruin. Proverbs 26:18-28
May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
