And they were persevering in the doctrine of the apostles, and in the communication of the breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: many wonders also and signs were done by the apostles in Jerusalem, and there was great fear in all. And all they that believed, were together, and had all things common. Their possessions and goods they sold, and divided them to all, according as every one had need. And continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they took their meat with gladness and simplicity of heart; Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord increased daily together such as should be saved. Acts 2:42-47

There have been many events which have driven the direction of our history, but there have been none as powerful as the sacrifice made for all of mankind upon the cross. The event was witnessed by but a few, but the word which was spread has influenced generations.

Those who were there could not deny what had occurred before them. They may have attempted to explain away individual events, but the totality of the fulfillment of the scriptures, the shaking of the earth, the rending of the temple curtain, all followed by the news that Jesus rose in victory over death suddenly left many in great fear for they did not understand the great news which was being given to them.

After the apostles lost their teacher, they too were in fear, but after He appeared to them, they were filled with great joy. Renewed and filled with the Holy Spirit, they spread the good news of the Lord. Many heard them in their own tongues and they were amazed.

The truth could not be hidden. Blessed are those who hear the truth and are filled with the Holy Spirit such that they are able to recognize the truth and fall in prayer in thanks and praise for the grace and mercy of the Lord.

Many still fall to deception, for the evil one seeks to separate the children of God from their Creator. The ways of the evil one is to wrap the core of deception in the camouflage of segments of truth. Through that which people have a desire to believe, the evil one disguises his deceptions, but no deception can forever obscure the truth, nor can the truth be covered by the darkness. Those who seek the truth will find it, but those who deny the truth shall lose it and fall to the consequences of deception.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy hath regenerated us unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that can not fade, reserved in heaven for you, Who, by the power of God, are kept by faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein you shall greatly rejoice, if now you must be for a little time made sorrowful in diverse temptations: That the trial of your faith (much more precious than gold which is tried by the fire) may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, you love: in whom also now, though you see him not, you believe: and believing shall rejoice with joy unspeakable and glorified; Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:3-9)

We may wonder for what purpose must we spend our time in this world. It is so we will understand the greater good. It is so that we will be exposed to the consequences of deception and the misery deception brings. It is so that we will understand false happiness and just how empty and temporary it is. It is so that we will understand how evil brings great suffering. It is so we will understand the truth and great love of our Lord and savior.

It is so that we are able to make the choice of our own love; if we love the fulness of the Lord or lust for the emptiness of the world. Some will be deceived in this journey, but those who listen for the truth will hear it. Some will be lured away from the light, but those who watch for the truth will be brought to the light. Some will wander to the coldness of the dark, but those who seek the truth will feel the warmth of the Holy Spirit. In prayer, we must ask that deceptions are revealed and that the truth so important to our souls is revealed to us so that we are guided to the path which our Lord seeks for us to walk.

Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: Peace be to you. And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.

Now Thomas, one of the twelve, who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him: We have seen the Lord. But he said to them: Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.

And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said: Peace be to you. Then he saith to Thomas: Put in thy finger hither, and see my hands; and bring hither thy hand, and put it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing. Thomas answered, and said to him: My Lord, and my God. Jesus said to him: Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.

Many other signs also did Jesus in the sight of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing, you may have life in his name.
(John 20:19-31)

When the Son of Man rose from the tomb, He did not set forth to raise armies to avenge His crucifixion. Instead, He came to His apostles and told them, “As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” In love, our God sent His only begotten Son so that who believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. As the Father sent his Son to spread the news of the love of God for all His children, His Son now sent the apostles in peace to spread this same Word of love and forgiveness.

For some, the truth is difficult to perceive. They attempt to discern it with their eyes. They attempt to discern it with what they can touch. They attempt to discern it through the standard of what they can logically comprehend. Through whatever sense they use, the evil one can misguide them through illusions, deceptions, and false logic; for they fail to use their hearts.

What hope, do we have, then? If all we see, all we touch, all we hear, all we parse with logic can be an illusion, a deception, a lie pulling us to the darkness; what hope, then, do we have? Our hope is found in prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit. Though we may be lured by the deceptions of the evil one, if we ask in prayer for the truth, it shall be revealed to us. It will not be revealed always by what we see, but by what we discern in our hearts. In our hearts we know love and though evil may hide in the ways of the world, in what may appear to be good intentions; it cannot withstand the test of the Holy Spirit for in the end, the Holy Spirit helps us see the difference of love and lust. It is the test of love, which is felt in the heart, which will lead us to know that which is of truth and that which is meant to deceive.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
