The Healing Which Only Comes from God
Scripture:
And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: The man in whose skin or flesh shall arise a different color or a blister, or as it were something shining, that is the stroke of the leprosy, shall be brought to Aaron the priest, or any or of his sons.
Now whosoever shall be defiled with the leprosy, and is separated by the judgment of the priest: Shall have his clothes hanging loose, his head bare, his mouth covered with a cloth: and he shall cry out that he is defiled and unclean. All the time that he is a leper and unclean he shall dwell alone without the camp. (Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46)
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatsoever else you do, do all to the glory of God. Be without offense to the Jew, and to the Gentiles and to the church of God: As I also in all things please all men, not seeking that which is profitable to myself but to many: that they may be saved. Be followers of me, as I also am of Christ. (1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1)
And there came a leper to him, beseeching him and kneeling down, said to him: If you will you can make me clean. And Jesus, having compassion on him, stretched forth his hand and touching him said to him: I will. Be you made clean. And when he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him: and he was made clean. And he strictly charged him and forthwith sent him away. And he said to him: See you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the high priest and offer for your cleansing the things that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. But he being gone out, began to publish and to blaze abroad the word: so that he could not openly go into the city, but was without in desert places. And they flocked to him from all sides. (Mark 1:40-45)
Reflection:
What is displayed by our body outwardly is not what is always inside. The person with illness or disease may be contagious and at times may need to be isolated so that others are not similarly afflicted. If this is so with us physically, what then, does it mean for us spiritually?
All would be blessed if what is healthy was more contagious than that which is unclean. Think if it were possible for one who is healthy to spread health to the afflicted. What may not seem possible with the body, though, is possible with the soul. Blessed are the faithful, for through their faith, they may spread that which may heal the soul of others.
To each soul, God has granted the choice of what one may desire to do. One might think the choice between eternal life and eternal death might be simple, yet, so many are deceived by the ways of the world which place the soul on the path to death. Blessed are those who spread the faith, for they heal in others what is afflicted by the world.
The call of God is for the salvation of our souls, but if we are to truly understand His ways, we should not be satisfied only with our concerns. We should seek also to care for our brothers and sisters. He calls us to love one another as He loves us, but how is it love if we are willing to let the souls of those around us fall to evil?
We cannot force the ways of the Lord upon anyone, nor is that what is asked of us by God; rather, He asks us to be contagious in our faith, to be an example of the light, so that others may see, so that others may seek to learn about the One who was sacrificed so that all the children of God might be saved.
He came to this world so that we may be healed. Through His works, the leper was cured, the sick were healed, the lame walked, the deaf heard and the blind were made to see. These were but outwardly signs of His power, but it was not the most significant. Many sought Him for what He could do for their physical ills, but those who truly understood flocked to Him to heal their souls.
Our Lord made us stewards of the bodies, which for a time holds our souls. What God has created is owned by God; therefore we should care for His creation so that we are able to lead healthy lives with energy to do His work, to care for the world over which He has given us dominion and to care for the children of His creation.
If He allows us to be stricken, we should have faith that it is so others many minister to us; but we should remember that as we receive ministry, we may respond in faith through how we receive those who minister and the prayer we offer in thanks and praise to Him. For each child of His creation He has a purpose. No matter what one perceives to be their struggle, if they open the eyes of their soul, they will see that to which He calls them.
Our bodies are dust and to dust they shall return. Our stewardship of them in this world is temporary, but we should seek to use them for His purpose; for what we do to respond to His call will become that which feeds our souls.
It is natural for one to care for the needs of the body, for if one does not care for the body, it will not take long for the body to whither and die. In the struggles of this world, though, many are tempted to forget the needs of their soul. If they do not care for their soul, they open it up to be consumed by evil and all the despair and eternal anguish which evil brings. One cannot enter heaven with evil in their hearts; therefore, if they let evil roost within them, they will be left outside the gates in the darkness, isolated from the light within the kingdom and all the love which it brings.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
