Those Who Mock God Do Not Know Him
Scripture:
Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people wickedly transgressed according to all the abominations of the Gentiles: and they defiled the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem. And the Lord the God of their fathers sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising early, and daily admonishing them: because he spared his people and his dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.
And the enemies set fire to the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, burnt all the towers, and what soever was precious they destroyed. Whosoever escaped the sword, was led into Babylon, and there served the king and his sons, till the reign of the king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, and the land might keep her sabbaths: for all the days of the desolation she kept a sabbath, till the seventy years were expired.
But in the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the mouth of Jeremias, the Lord stirred up the heart of Cyrus, king of the Persians: who commanded it to be proclaimed through all his kingdom, and by writing also, saying: Thus saith Cyrus king of the Persians: All the kingdoms of the earth has the Lord the God of heaven given to me, and he has charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea: who is there among you of all his people? The Lord his God be with him, and let him go up. (2 Chronicles 36:14-16, 19-23)
But God (who is rich in mercy) for his exceeding charity wherewith he loved us even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together in Christ (by whose grace you are saved) And has raised us up together and has made us sit together in the heavenly places, through Christ Jesus. That he might show in the ages to come the abundant riches of his grace, in his bounty towards us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you are saved through faith: and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God. Not of works, that no man may glory. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus in good works, which God has prepared that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:4-10)
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believes in him may not perish, but may have life everlasting. For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son: that whosoever believes in him may not perish, but may have life everlasting. For God sent not his Son into the world, to judge the world: but that the world may be saved by him. He that believes in him is not judged. But he that does not believe is already judged: because he believes not in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the judgment: Because the light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than the light: for their works were evil. For every one that does evil hates the light and comes not to the light, that his works may not be reproved. But he that does truth comes to the light, that his works may be made manifest: because they are done in God. (John 3:14-21)
Reflection:
Those who mock Him do not know Him, for He is slow to anger, but He will hold to account those who spurn Him. It is the deceptions of the evil one which make so many believe that there are selfish pleasures beyond the joy of God. When we fall to the temptations of the world, we deprive ourselves of the eternal blessings which may only be found through Him.
As it was in days of old, there are those who seek ways different from their Creator. They believe only in self; a way which is so limiting. They pursue selfish desires and turn away from the eternal love of their Lord. They do not wish to know Him. They rationalize away the blessings of His commandments and they set about to seduce others to what will become their eternal prison of misery.
If only the lost children could see the joy of His love, they would leave behind the selfish pursuits by which they are blinded. They would flock to Him in prayer and worship Him in thanks and praise for the blessings of His Word. If only the lost children were able to see through the deceptions of the evil one.
In prayer, we should pray that we are not deceived. In prayer, we should pray that the eyes of the lost children of His creation are opened to Him so that they may see the eternal blessings of His love. In prayer, we should pray that the faithful will rise to lead the direction of our communities and our nations so that we may turn the tide against evil. In prayer, we should ask that the eyes of our leaders are opened to the blessings of His Word, so that all may be led by the commandments of love.
The land which spurns Him will remain mired in strife, but the land which seeks Him will become great. The legacy of the people who mock His ways will be pain and misery, but the legacy of those who follow Him will be a path to His kingdom.
Through His love for all the children of His creation, He sent the One to be the salvation of all. Because of our sin, it is not possible for us to receive salvation through our works. We are only saved through our belief in Him. It is only through His grace by which we may receive salvation. Blessed are we that we may find eternal life by the salvation possible through the Son of God. Blessed are we that His grace was poured out in sacrifice for us, that we may be forgiven of our sins and come to know the joy of doing His works through our hands.
Though one may be steeped in sin, though one may have fallen to the deceptions of the world, though one may have walked the crooked path; there is still hope for all for He sent the light to wipe out the darkness which seeks to consume the children of His creation. Those who spurn the light will be cast forever into the misery of the darkness; but through His grace and mercy, those who seek the light of the world and believe in Him shall be forgiven and invited to His kingdom.
We cannot earn what we have been given, for there is nothing we can do to earn a place in heaven. The place which awaits us was paid for by the sacrifice of the One, but if we believe in Him, what better way to demonstrate our belief than to offer our hands to do His works. What better way to offer thanks and praise for the sacrifice made for us than to live by His commandments. Blessed are those who seek the path of the Lord for they will come to the light and delight in His embrace.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
