He Designed Them Male and Female

Scripture:

And the Lord God said: It is not good for man to be alone: let us make him a helper like unto himself. And the Lord God having formed out of the ground all the beasts of the earth, and all the fowls of the air, brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: for whatsoever Adam called any living creature the same is its name. And Adam called all the beasts by their names, and all the fowls of the air, and all the cattle of the field: but for Adam there was not found a helper like himself. Then the Lord God cast a deep sleep upon Adam: and when he was fast asleep, he took one of his ribs, and filled up flesh for it. And the Lord God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman: and brought her to Adam. And Adam said: This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. Wherefore a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh. (Genesis 2:18-24)

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor: that, through the grace of God he might taste death for all. For it became him for whom are all things and by whom are all things, who had brought many children into glory, to perfect the author of their salvation, by his passion. For both he that sanctifies and they who are sanctified are all of one. For which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren. (Hebrews 2:9-11)

And the Pharisees coming to him asked him, tempting him: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? But he answering, said to them: What did Moses command you? Who said: Moses permitted to write a bill of divorce and to put her away. To whom Jesus answering, said: Because of the hardness of your heart, he wrote you that precept. But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause, a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife. And they two shall be in one flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder. And in the house again his disciples asked him concerning the same thing. And he said to them: Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another commits adultery against her. And if the wife shall put away her husband and be married to another, she commits adultery.

And they brought to him young children, that he might touch them. And the disciples rebuked them that brought them. Whom when Jesus saw, he was much displeased and said to them: Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Amen I say to you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter into it. And embracing them and laying his hands upon them, he blessed them.
(Mark 10:2-16)

Reflection:

And so it was in the beginning that the Lord our God made the children of His creation male and female. For the man He made a companion to live with him and share his days. Though they were separate, He made them so that as two they would also be one; and in their union would come the generations. What was set in motion by the hand of God became many stories; some of blessing and others of tragedy.

From man and woman came those who would become families, families which would form tribes, and tribes which would become nations. All who would come to walk the earth would come from the first. The linage of the many came from the two; how is it then, the generations would lose sight of the common ancestry from which they came? How is it that so many would turn one against another, blood against blood as if each was from a different creation? The answer is that the tragedies which befall the people come from the one who would seduce them to sin.

We were not placed in this world to bring strife to one another, but in living through His commandments, we were meant to bring love and fulfillment to one another. The man, the woman, the child, the family, the community, the cities, the nations, the world will not survive under selfishness, but will flourish under selflessness. Though evil may band together to achieve an end, it is the nature of evil that it will eventually turn upon those within its body. The mistake made by those who fall under the deceptions of evil is that evil will only turn upon others, but the way of evil is to consume all within its path. It will provide whatever illusions are required to achieve its means. It will provide the illusion of pleasure and power. It will provide the illusion of wealth. It will provide the illusion of good intentions; but the end remains the same.

The only salvation from the path of evil is the One who was sent in sacrifice for all who would believe in Him. With love He came and with love He taught. With love He invited the children of His creation to turn away from the ways of evil and the sins of peoples and to turn to the Word of love. All which is offered is through His passion, through His love, through all He wishes to give the children of His creation and through all He asks the children of His creation to give one another.

When the people turn to selfish desires, they open the door to their destruction. In selfishness a man will turn against his wife and a wife will turn against her husband. In selfishness, children will turn against their parents and parents will turn against their children and children will turn one against another. As families are destroyed, so too are the communities in which they are formed. As communities fall into conflict, so too do the cities of nations and nations of the world. Those who do not enjoy the unity of love will fall to the conflicts of evil and the destruction which it brings.

From little things grow big things, therefore, from small steps of evil grow larger ones. From small seeds of evil grow ever growing vines and thick trees which block out the light. One may believe it will not matter if they tarry in the path of evil for a time, for surly they do not intend to complete the journey, but, without warning, the journey is done and one cannot escape the clutches of where evil has led.

A man may turn to woman and woman to man to express their love, but during the journey of life, evil will work to tear love asunder. Jealousy, pride and lust will work to consume the selflessness through which love was formed. Blessed are those who are wary of the reaches of evil, for they will see it and will work to banish it from their presence. Only with eyes opened through Him will the ways of evil be revealed, but those consumed in selfishness will remain though they boast they see.

The design of God is that a man and a woman should care for each other, and should they be blessed with children, as parents they should care for their children. We are brought into this world with innocence in our hearts, but it requires the work of parents to preserve that innocence. It requires the work of parents to protect their children from the evils of the world and to prepare the children for how the child may assume their role as the child matures within the creation God has made. And in that process, children are also called to care for their parents, for in the cycle of love, all receive blessings.

But the design of evil is to replace the blessings of love. The design of evil is to seduce the innocent to empty pursuits. The design of evil is to drive conflicts which will lead to the destruction of souls. Blessed are those who stand in defense of the innocent, for God will see their love. Blessed are those who teach the children the way of His Word, for through the seeds of faith and love they place within the children of His creation, the blessings of the Word will come forth.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
