Blessed Are Those Called to do the Will of the Lord
Scripture:
And you Bethlehem Ephrata, are a little one among the thousands of Juda, out of you shall he come forth unto me that is to be the ruler in Israel: and his going forth is from the beginning, from the days of eternity. Therefore will he give them up even till the time wherein she that travails shall bring forth: and the remnant of his brethren shall be converted to the children of Israel. And he shall stand, and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the height of the name of the Lord, his God: and they shall be converted, for now shall he be magnified even to the ends of the earth. (Micah 5:2-4)
Wherefore, when he comes into the world he says: Sacrifice and oblation you would not: but a body you have fitted to me. Holocausts for sin did not please you. Then said I: Behold I come: in the head of the book it is written of me: that I should do your will, O God. In saying before, Sacrifices, and oblations, and holocausts for sin you would not, neither are they pleasing to you, which are offered according to the law. Then said I: Behold, I come to do your will, O God: He takes away the first, that he may establish that which follows. In the which will, we are sanctified by the oblation of the body of Jesus Christ once. (Hebrews 10:5-10)
And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda. And she entered into the house of Zachary and saluted Elizabeth. And it came to pass that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud voice and said: Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And whence is this to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed are you that has believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to you by the Lord. (Luke 1:39-45)
Reflection:
From the ancient days it was told that One would be brought forth to be the ruler of the chosen people. The One to be born would lead, but in ways the people did not expect. They know the Lord is all powerful, but the power of the One He would send was beyond the comprehension of many for such power was foreign to their hearts. He would come forth bringing the power of love so that hearts which were barren of it would be converted to it.
Love is but a word if it is not understood in the heart. Love is but a word if it is not brought to meaning through action. Love is but a word if there is no example through which its meaning is understood. He came forward to teach love and be love so that all might see, all might believe and all might see its true power within the hearts and souls who are called to its blessing.
Love calls for sacrifice, for sacrifice is done through selflessness. He calls us to selfless service to one another and so He came as the example of selflessness. He sought no treasure, for He was the treasure of all time, for He is the purest love within His creation. The children of His creation offered up sacrifices of animals in atonement for sin; but He would change all for He came to give of Himself in atonement for the blessing of all. He who is all, gave all so that all who believe in Him would receive the blessing of forgiveness, and through this blessing, the life eternal which can come from no one but Him.
And so the virgin would be told of the divine mission for which the Father created her. Many a woman looks at the child which once lived within them, gazing upon their newborn face, and wonders what may come. What could have been the thoughts of the woman who was told that she would bear the only begotten Son of God? What could have been her thoughts as she felt the life growing within her? What could have been the thoughts of the woman who would hold the Son within her arms, who would kiss the face of Her Lord, who would care for Him until His hour would come to reveal the truth of the Word for the blessing of all.
What would be our thoughts if an angel came before us to reveal a mission for which God created us? We might wonder what will come. We might wonder if we can rise to the challenge. We might wonder if we have the capability, the strength; but we need not wonder for to achieve whatever mission God has created us only requires that we accept as Mary did; for He will be with us through every step just as He was with Mary.
Blessed is the one who was chosen by God to give birth to His only begotten Son, for she was called to something no other mother has been called. Blessed is she for to what she was called and blessed is she for her response to Her Lord. She gave herself over to accomplish that to which He called her and through Her, through the fruit of her womb, would come the One to bring salvation to the world.
Just as Mary was created for a special purpose, He has created all the children of His creation to accomplish His work. To know what He asks of us, we should open our hearts in prayer and listen for His voice. He has sent the Holy Spirit to guide us, to reveal the truth of His Word. If we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, we will also open ourselves to understanding of what He asks of us. Blessed are those who hear His voice and respond to His call. Blessed are those who feel Him in their hearts, for they will know the blessing of His love.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
