The Eternal Food for the Soul
Scripture:
But Melchisedech, the king of Salem, bringing forth bread and wine, for he was the priest of the most high God, blessed him, and said: Blessed be Abram by the most high God, who created heaven and earth. And blessed be the most high God, by whose protection, the enemies are in your hands. And he gave him the tithes of all. (Genesis 14:18-20)
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread, and giving thanks, broke and said: Take and eat: This is my body, which shall be delivered for you. This do for the commemoration of me. In like manner also the chalice, after he had supped, saying: This chalice is the new testament in my blood. This do, as often as you shall drink, for the commemoration of me. For as often as you shall eat this bread and drink the chalice, you shall show the death of the Lord, until he come. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
Which when the people knew, they followed him: and he received them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and healed them who had need of healing. Now the day began to decline. And the twelve came and said to him: Send away the multitude, that, going into the towns and villages round about, they may lodge and get victuals; for we are here in a desert place. But he said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said: We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; unless perhaps, we should go and buy food for all this multitude. Now there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples: Make them sit down by fifties in a company. And they did so and made them all sit down. And taking the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven and blessed them: and he broke and distributed to his disciples, to set before the multitude. And they did all eat and were filled. And there were taken up of fragments that remained to them, twelve baskets. (John 9:11-17)
Reflection:
In each of the children of His creation is a sense of what is right and what is wrong. The ways of the world work to confuse this sense, but blessed are those who know His ways and are led from that confusion. The lures of the world present false happiness, but what is perceived as gain from the world is truly loss. Those who trust and place their faith in Him will discover lasting blessings which cannot come from the world, but may only come from Him.
He came to the world to bring light to the world and to save all who believe in Him. He brought with Him the wisdom of His Word and presented it to the children of His creation. He brought to them the sustenance, which if consumed, would fill them as no food or drink can. For a brief time He walked among them and shared with them, but His Holy Spirit has been forever with each generation, is now and forever will be.
It is His desire that the children of His creation come together to be one with Him, and so He gave them His body and blood so that He would be within them and they with Him. There is the food of the world, but it is food which only sustains for a time and will leave all forever hungry. He brings the food which is forever filling and the source of everlasting life. Through the Son, a new covenant was born, a covenant which was, is and ever shall be sealed with the sacrifice of His body and blood and the blessing of His love.
He feeds the children of His creation in many ways. He provides the fruit of the land, the fruit of giving hands and the fruit which nourishes the soul. As each comes together to be with Him, His commandments to love are fulfilled and the blessings of His ways are brought to the world. Those who turn from Him are left with the emptiness of the world. They will hunger and thirst to the end of their days.
Through His compassion, those of faith receive His miracles. To each generation He offers what can only be found through Him. Those who wish to be filled need only come to Him, for He provides the food of love, the food which shall forever sustain the soul, the food of everlasting life.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
