Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned [up] with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear." (Matthew 13:36-43)
We become who we follow. So too do others become what they follow in us. What we allow to be sown within us, the good seed or the bad seed, is the seed we shall spawn and spread. The question is whether we shall be the good seed from which good seed will be sown or will we become among the weeds and spread the seed of weeds?
Some do not comprehend that which they have accepted or that which they sow. We are tempted to believe we are the flowering plant with blooms pleasing to see, but we fail to see the thicket of thorns hidden under the blooms. Many fail to comprehend, it is not a matter of how we see ourselves, but what is seen by the One who judges in truth.
Unlike the plants of the field, we can change the nature of our seed. This gift was given to us from upon the cross. Through this gift, we have the choice to change what we have become to what He intended for us when He formed us in the womb. In prayer, we may ask Him to reveal to us who we are and who He intended us to be. Should the mirror He holds before us reveal that we are among the weeds to be collected and burned, we may ask Him to guide us in how we may shed from us the thorns and yield the pleasing blooms; how we may become what was intended by the good seed He sows.
Blessed are those who become the good seed, for they shall shine like the sun on earth as they will in heaven.
