Can the intercession of a saint help us?
I was asked the other day why I believed in saints. I know for one I have been helped out a lot along my path. Whether it be saints, angels, God, something is there. I know various religions think that asking saints for help is a sin. I have heard of several Christian Religions that show great devotion to saints. I have also heard that other Chistian Religions Worship saints and this is a sin...
I know there are those folks out there that don't know what's going on, and I see this on both sides. I have seen people that think you should worship saints, and those who view anything to do with saints to be bad.
Well, obviously worshiping a saint is a sin, or anything other than God for that matter. Where most people get confused is when the term pray is involved, as in "I prayed to Saint Jude to find my car keys." Most people use prayer and praise interchangeably. We must realize that to pray to someone or something, we are simply asking something. In this case, we are asking the saint to intercede for us. The example I give people is that when I was younger and wanted to get my dad to let me borrow the car, but I thought my chances small by asking him alone, I would ask my mother to intercede for me and my chances of getting to drive grew by leaps and bounds.
One of the "kits" we sell in the store is called a "home seller kit." It comes with a prayer card, instructions and a 4 inch St. Joseph figurine. When we opened, I had never heard of such a thing. Basically the legend is that if you bury the statue and ask St. Joseph to Intercede, your house will sell. I have heard stories, and in general chalked them up to hear say. I have heard that people buried the statue in the wrong direction and their neighbor had someone pull in one day and make them an offer they couldn't refuse. The house was not even on the market. We have had many people buy them from us and is one of the hardest products for us to keep in stock. We see people all the time that say "You might find this odd, but a friend of mine told me..."
We had some realtors come in the other day and look at them and scoff a little bit. We talked him in to buying one. He came back 2 days later and bought ten more. He said that he had a property that had been listed for over 6 months without even a bite. He buried the statue on the backyard of this home that afternoon, and about 6PM he got a call and someone put a contract down on it that night. Coincidence? You decide...
Do you have any saint stories? We would love to hear, leave a comment or a post in the forums.
