News: Hospital Chaplain fired over Prayer

Prayer Here is a story that blows my mind.  In Florida a Hospital Chaplain was fired for saying Jesus at the end of his prayers.  His job description includes sharing scriptures and prayers to comfort patients or family members.  This is a request based position, that is those he talks to must request his presence.  If the request is made by someone that is of a non-Christian faith, a different chaplain is summoned that can fill that need.

Maybe I am mis-understanding something here, but even if he is non-denominational and is not leaning toward any certain Christian religion, is Jesus not still included in that?

About 3 years ago, we found a great doctor.  My wife had taken our daughter in to get her check up.  She told me about this doc and of his Christian beliefs.  Later on I got a cold and went to see him.  After he had examined me and written up my prescription and everything, he did something that shocked me.  He asked if he could pray with me before I left.  I, of course, consented to this.  Needless to say, we have taken him on as our primary physician and have been going to him ever since.

I support this chaplain in his efforts and applaud him.  How can you get fired for doing your job?

It is indeed a very strange day and age we live in. For the sake of "peace," we are encouraged to accept and even embrace all types of "faiths," except the Christian faith. What is it about our society that has made this so? Do we feel that militant religionists will be kinder to us if we accept everything and believe nothing?

Have you ever been in a church setting where someone prays and in concluding the prayer quickly runs through those same words, so as to get it over with. They are just as uncomfortable with it as those who fired the chaplain. Uncomfortable for a myriad of reasons, but mainly because of being misinformed or lacking knowledge.

Yet, the chaplain who lost his job for praying "in Jesus name" might have been as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove, if he or she could expand what "in the name of Jesus" actually means. For instance, concluding a prayer to God that would also help educate,... such as "in the character of, and for the sake of, the Christ." That's just one example.
