Trump Allows Miss California to Keep Crown |
|
|
Prayer-Soldier writes "Donald Trump held a news conference today to announce that Carrie Prejean would be allowed to retain her crown and title despite the controversy that continues to swirl around her. Prejean was launched into controversy after her answer at the Miss USA pageant where she stated she believed marriage was between a man and a woman. As the controversy escalated, revealing pictures of Prejean were released and the relationship with the Miss California organization became tense.
Speculation that Prejean would lose her crown came after a press conference where the co-directors of the Miss California organization alluded to the possibility that Prejean had violated her contract due to public appearance without permission of the Miss California organization and Miss California appearances that Prejean failed to attend. The semi-nude photos were one more issue that could have resulted in Trump to withdraw the Miss California crown from Prejean.
As Trump spoke, he addressed the issues and related that Prejean gave an honest answer at the pageant. He related that if Prejean was not so beautiful, “nobody really would have cared.” Trump also pointed out that her answer was the same as that given by President Obama in response to a similar question. Prejean, later in the conference related that her answer was not only the same as that of the President, but also of The Secretary of State, Hillory Clinton.
Prejean related in her comments that she was asked for her opinion and that she answered according to her beliefs. She stressed that she also took care in her answer to let everyone know that she did not mean any offense to anyone. As Prejean continued, she became emotional and said that what happened to her should not happen in America.
Trump related that the pictures were reviewed and that they were fine under the contract of the pageant. He related that they were modeling pictures, and in some cases were risqué, but in many cases they “were very lovely pictures.” In relation to the issues with the Miss California organization, Trump chalked the issue up to a miscommunication. Trump related that during the meetings in his office, those issues were cleared up.
Trump concluded that this has been a very tough period for Prejean. Trump commented, “She has really taken a tremendous amount of abuse and really by, in some cases, people who really shouldn't be handing out abuse.”
Perez Hilton expressed dismay on his web site, commenting that Trump, “did not touch upon the many ways that Carrie Prejean has broken her contract with the Miss USA pageant.”
The controversy will not likely end here. Additional photos of Prejean are starting to surface, although there are some questions as to whether the photos were electronically doctored. After the news settles in, it will be likely that Prejean will continue to become the subject of pundits on both sides of the cultural controversy. "
