Anonymous writes "On 17 Feb 2010, members of St. Patrick's parish of Colorado Springs, Colorado joined a national 40 Days for Life campaign to pray for an end to abortion and seek to influence local, state, and national leaders to protect all human life from the moment of conception until natural death. According to a 20 Jan 10 LifeNews.com article, “The 40 Days for Life campaign consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, 40 days of constant, peaceful vigil outside abortion centers and Planned Parenthood offices and 40 days of active pro-life community outreach.”
Members of St. Patrick's parish have joined many other pro-life supporters who participate in vigils outside Planned Parenthood, often viewed as the leaders of the abortion industry. According to the LifeNews.com article, the 40 Days for Life campaign continues to grow as each campaign becomes larger than the last. The article noted, “Five abortion centers have closed following 40 Days for Life prayer vigils. Some 27 abortion industry employees have quit their jobs, including Abby Johnson, who left her position as director of a Planned Parenthood abortion center in Texas last October.”
At the end of Jan 2010, 186 crosses were erected on the street side lawn of St Patrick's, next to the memorial of fallen Police Officer, Detective Jared S. Jensen. The 186 crosses represented the 186 souls every hour that see the end of their short lives while still in their mother's womb. According to a Prolife Action League posting, there is an estimated 1.3 million abortions performed in the United States each year.
The women at St. Patrick's seeking support for the 40 Days for Life campaign are rather quiet, but very gracious and friendly. They are not “in your face” activists, but one can easily tell they are very devoted to educating the public as to the lives cut short by abortion. Their efforts are in hope that children conceived will be allowed to live to fulfill their natural lives.
In one of the brochures the women pass out, “Just the Facts,” provided by the Dayton Right to Life Society, readers are encouraged to consider facts over rhetoric presented by various groups on both sides of the abortion issue. The statistics presented include that “Half of all abortions are performed on women who chose to use abortion as their only means of birth control.” It also notes that 64,000 American babies each year are aborted some time after 18 weeks of life and that “40 abortions a day are performed on women carrying a child five months or older.”
The brochure also points out that approximately two million couples in America are waiting to adopt a child while only 2 – 3 percent of the more than one million teen agers who will become pregnant this year will place their child for adoption. Instead, 40 percent will elect to have the life of their child end within the womb. The brochure concludes that the “choice” mantra of pro-abortion groups is a marketing slogan that promotes only one choice to only one person: the choice of the mother to end the life of her child conceived, but not yet born.
