Blessed Are Those Who Share the Word

Scripture:

That you may fear the Lord your God, and keep all his commandments and precepts, which I command you, and your sons, and your grandsons, all the days of your life, that your days may be prolonged. Hear, O Israel, and observe to do the things which the Lord has commanded you, that it may be well with you, and you may be greatly multiplied, as the Lord the God of your fathers has promised you a land flowing with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength. And these words which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: (Deuteronomy 6:2-6)

And the others indeed were made many priests, because by reason of death they were not suffered to continue: But this, for that he continues for ever, has an everlasting priesthood: Whereby he is able also to save for ever them that come to God by him; always living to make intercession for us. For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens: Who needs not daily (as the other priests) to offer sacrifices, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people: for this he did once, in offering himself. For the law makes men priests, who have infirmity: but the word of the oath (which was since the law) the Son who is perfected for evermore. ( Hebrews 7:23-28 )

And there came one of the scribes that had heard them reasoning together, and seeing that he had answered them well, asked him which was the first commandment of all. And Jesus answered him: The first commandment of all is, Hear, O Israel: the Lord your God is one God. And you shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind and with your whole strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like to it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said to him: Well, Master, you have said in truth that there is one God and there is no other besides him. And that he should be loved with the whole heart and with the whole understanding and with the whole soul and with the whole strength. And to love your neighbor as yourself is a greater thing than all holocausts and sacrifices. And Jesus seeing that he had answered wisely, said to him: you are not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that dared ask him any question. (Mark 12:28-34)

Reflection:

Moses presented to the people the commandments of the Lord. They were the commandments for those who stood before him and all the generations to come. They are the commandments, which, if followed, yield not only peace among the people, but fulfill the greatest of commandments to love God and all the children of His creation. They are the commandments that, if followed, keeps evil from walking among the people.

Some would heed the words given to Moses by their God, but others would be tempted by the ways of the world. As the sins of man spreads through the people, evil ripples and that which could be blessed is marred with pain and sorrow. What some view as a path to happiness, they discover is a void which may never be filled when in the absence of the Lord. Blessed are those who invite the Holy Spirit into their hearts, for they will find the true path to happiness.

Some are anointed to lead the children of His creation in the ways of the Lord, but even priests are tempted by the ways of the world for they are human and the ways of people are weak. Still, the priests minister to the people, seeking to lead the children of His creation away from the temptations of sin and ask God to forgive those who fail, but the priests must also ask forgiveness for themselves for when they too miss the mark of what is asked by God.

As the priest stands before the people, they are called to a higher standard, for they encourage others to the ways of God. It is difficult to call others when one struggles with sins of their own. Some may find it easy to criticize the priest who is not perfect in the ways they follow the Word, but those who criticize should think first how they try and how they fail before the eyes of God. Blessed are the priests who work to lead others to the light. The tasks of the priests are hard when they must not only care for the infirmity of others, but they must also care for their own.

Abraham, Moses, David and all the anointed have had moments where they have fallen to sin, but He has forgiven them, just as He forgives all who believe in and seek Him. Blessed are those who fail in their endeavors, but continue to try to follow the commandments of love. Blessed are the priests and ministers, and blessed are those who pray for the priests, for together in prayer, they invite the power of the Holy Spirit to protect their souls. He sent the Holy Spirit to be with us in this world for He has returned to the Father as the intercessor for the children of His creation. He was sent by the Father to be the way and through Him, the sacrifice so that we may forgiven our transgressions.

And so the moment would come where the Son would be tested. But He was the Word made flesh and He came to reveal the Word to all the children of His creation for all their generations. As He was challenged He told us that all the commandments and all which has been told by the prophets depended upon the commandments to love God and one another. In those commandments is found the perfection of His creation, for through love, evil is vanquished. Just as He conquered death so that all might live, love will conquer evil as we seek His presence to purify our souls.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
