On 22 Sep 10, the O'reilly Factor reported that a new movie was about to be released straight to DVD titled, “Christmas with a Capital C.” A search for the movie, however, yields a slew of liberal and atheist blogs expressing disdain for the movie story line.
According to the movie trailer, the story is about a political battle between two men whose rivalry dates back to their high school years. At the center of the controversy are the traditions of Christmas greetings and public displays of the nativity. The story unfolds in the setting of a small town in Alaska. Suddenly, the traditions of the town are ;;challenged when religious tolerance is used as an excuse to silence Christian ;;expressions of Christmas. While a fictional account, the story draws from a number of real life ;;legal fights such as those outlined in the Guardian Angel Store news summaries cited below.
The “Times NewsFeed” positioned the movie as movies looking for new villains. The article observed that after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Hollywood has been deprived of easy villains. The article stated, “But now one film has brought the light and shown us a new way forward: Let's all be scared of atheists! Specifically resentful atheists who want to take away Christmas.”
The article continues, “NewsFeed should admit, the first time we saw the trailer for the film and heard its laughably on-the-nose dialogue we were convinced it was a joke: Does anyone actually believe in that tired dialectic of humble patriotic small-towners vs. smug urbanites who hate religion?”
