Distractions from God

It is through sin that we are distracted from God's work. It is sin that keeps us from hearing God's call. It is the temptations of sin that Satan uses to divert us from our Lord. It is the weakness of our human condition that leaves us susceptible to Satan's deceptions. We cannot judge others for their weakness when such weakness exists in ourselves.

Sin is the result of our selfishness, our lack of control, our pursuit of the world over God. It is a matter of turning us against ourselves. Sin is such an easy tool for Satan. How many ways are we tempted to live outside the word of God? It is a tool to snare our soul.

And what confusion is Satan able to cause if he tempts the leaders of faith? Are not our clergy just as human as those to whom they minister? In their human condition, they may seek to avoid sin, but they are still susceptible to the temptations, deceptions and snares of Satan.

We should not be surprised when Satan is able to tempt clergy and leaders of faith into sin. We should not be judgmental, â€œfor but the grace of God go I.â€ Though I may not commit the same sin of those scandalized, I have still committed many and will not be able to hope but to commit many more. Only with the strength of God may I hope to turn from my human condition and abide by God's word.

Lord, please stand by the clergy and leaders of faith and grant them strength to help them avoid Satan's snares. Help us with understanding should our clergy and teachers of faith falter. And should those about us falter, help us to remain strong in our own faith. Help us all to do the right thing to help the fallen stay in the light of Your word. Lord, help us to be forgiving as You forgive us. Amen.
