It is a natural thing that we should go to someone and ask for help when we are in need. But if we go to them only when we are in need, is this a true relationship?

It is a natural thing that we might resist charity from others. It is a wound to pride that we are not in control.

It is a natural thing to feel we can change circumstances beyond our control. It is also a natural thing to feel helpless in the face of so many things we feel we have no hope to influence. It is a natural thing to feel despair when we are but one against many; after all, what can one person do? But all great things start with one person who engages another until a great tide of motion is built. But so it is with evil; it may start with one person and another is engaged until an evil swell consumes the land.

This is the struggle of mankind, the pull between good and evil. It may ebb and flow, but if we are to see a balance towards good, right and justice; we must seek the help of a force greater than ourselves; we must seek the help of God.

We pray to Him on our time of need. We pray to Him when our hour is dark. It is a natural thing because only He can answer our prayers. It is a natural thing because only He is our salvation. But if we only seek Him to answer our needs, do we truly have a relationship with Him?

If we pray for only what we need, should we not expect that He would grow tired of us and ignore our pleas? Yet, should we not be amazed when He answers our prayers?

We cannot repay someone who is so much more than we. What is given to us is given in grace and Love. If we cannot repay, at least we can offer thanks. And if we are Loved, should we not return that Love? If all we offer are prayers of need, if we only turn to Him in time of fear or despair, He may respond, but we are missing so much, we are missing the joy and fulfillment of a relationship with the Lord.

If today should we hear His voice, would we listen? If today we should hear His voice, would we know how to have a conversation with Him? If today we should hear His voice, would we thank the Lord for that which he has granted us, or only offer our petitions for that which we want?
