Many blessings to all,
The lack of individual responsibility drives many of the ills of our society. Freedom means we are unrestricted in what we do, freewill means we are unrestricted in the choices we make; but to retain our freedom we must be both responsible in what we do and the choices we make. A free society succeeds only upon the individual responsibility of the citizens and those who govern. When either fails, corruption and oppression are often the result.
Individual responsibility starts with the the person in whatever capacity they may exist, whether it is as king or peasant, the failure to chose and act with responsibility impacts those around us. Nations are in turmoil because of the irresponsible, whether it be corrupt politicians, greedy business and union leaders, dishonest or lazy employees or citizens who victimize those about them.
The variables of responsibility are many and we may be tempted to rationalize actions as responsible despite the harm driven from what is perceived as good intentions. Who, might we ask, would deceive us into irresponsible behavior? Who indeed benefits when we follow unbridled desire and fail to consider what we may freely do in responsible service of others. Through prayer, we can ask for the guidance of God as to what is truly responsible.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, give me the wisdom to understand the impacts of my choices so that I may do what is responsible for my family, my friends, my co-workers, the needy, the poor in spirit, my fellow citizens; all who will be touched by what I do and what I fail to do.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, give me strength to balance my desire with what is good for those about me.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, grant our political leaders the desire to govern responsibly and to preserve the true freedom of our nation.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, deliver us from the corrupt, the criminal and the violence and anguish they bring.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, help each of us see that through individual responsibility, we build family, friends, communities and nations capable of great works and blessings for all.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, give strength to the peacemakers that they may protect us from those driven by the temptations of the evil one.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, help us to change our ways from the brood of vipers of which Jesus asked, “How can you flee from the judgment of Gehenna?” Matthew 23:33
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, help each of us see that if we follow Your commandment to love one another, we will act responsibly towards each other, leading us to peace and blessings in our day.
A simple prayer: Dear Lord, we thank You for the sacrifice of Your son, so that when we fail and act in sin, if we are contrite in our errors because of our belief in Him and the Word made flesh through Him, we may still be forgiven and invited into Your kingdom.
(Hear this, you who trample upon the needy and destroy the poor of the land! “When will the new moon be over,” you ask, “that we may sell our grain, and the sabbath, that we may display the wheat? We will diminish the ephah, add to the shekel, and fix our scales for cheating! We will buy the lowly man for silver, and the poor man for a pair of sandals; even the refuse of the wheat we will sell!” The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: Never will I forget a thing they have done!) Amos 8:4-7
May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
