The Gifts He Places in Our Care
Scripture:
For the sake of Sion I will not hold my peace, and for the sake of Jerusalem, I will not rest till her just one come forth as brightness, and her savior be lighted as a lamp. And the Gentiles shall see your just one, and all kings your glorious one: and you shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name. And you shall be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be called forsaken: and your land shall no more be called desolate: but you shall be called my pleasure in her, and your land inhabited. Because the Lord has been well pleased with you: and your land shall be inhabited. For the young man shall dwell with the virgin, and your children shall dwell in you. And the bridegroom shall rejoice over the bride, and your God shall rejoice over you. (Isaiah 62:1-5)
Now there are diversities of graces, but the same Spirit. And there are diversities of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but the same God, who works all in all. And the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man unto profit. To one indeed, by the Spirit, is given the word of wisdom: and to another, the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit: To another, faith in the same spirit: to another, the grace of healing in one Spirit: To another the working of miracles: to another, prophecy: to another, the discerning of spirits: to another, diverse kinds of tongues: to another, interpretation of speeches. But all these things, one and the same Spirit works, dividing to every one according as he will. (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
And the third day, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee: and the mother of Jesus was there. And Jesus also was invited, and his disciples, to the marriage. And the wine failing, the mother of Jesus said to him: They have no wine. And Jesus said to her: Woman, what is that to me and to you? My hour is not yet come. His mother said to the waiters: Whatsoever he shall say to you, do. Now there were set there six water pots of stone, according to the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three measures apiece. Jesus said to them: Fill the water pots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And Jesus said to them: Draw out now and carry to the chief steward of the feast. And they carried it. And when the chief steward had tasted the water made wine and knew not whence it was, but the waiters knew who had drawn the water: the chief steward called the bridegroom, And said to him: Every man at first sets forth good wine, and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse. But you have kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. (John 2:1-11)
Reflection:
When the citizens of the land turn to selfishness, charity is lost and evil takes hold. What was blessed becomes cursed. The only hope for the people is to turn to the One sent for their salvation. Blessed is the nation which follows in the ways of the Lord for as its citizens are selfless and seek to be servants of God and one another, the ravages of selfishness are laid to rest and the power of evil is quelled.
The ways of communities who live by the Word yields a joy which cannot be obtained through the ways of the world. With the Holy Spirit leaping from heart to heart, love grows and blessings spread. The Lord is pleased with those who give love, for they follow the greatest of His commandments. In prayer we should ask that all the people of the land will respond to His call and share the blessings of love with one another.
He grants gifts to each of the children of His creation so that they may share of them with family and community. Even if we are granted but one gift, we should seek to use it for His glory and for the blessing of the children of His creation. As we share of our gifts, all are blessed. As we share of our gifts, we give glory to God for the blessings of His creation. As we share of our gifts for the blessings of one another, we become joined with His blessings and become one in the body of Christ.
And so it was revealed that the One who was sent came with the power of miracles. What He did was in compassion for others. He performed no miracle for Himself, though He could have commanded all the elements of the earth, the winds of the sky and all which roamed the land to bring to Him whatever His desire. The miracles He performed brought blessings of joy, blessings of healing, and blessings of life. As He walks with us, He delights in the smiles and laughter of children. He is pleased as He sees love and selflessness in those who surround Him.
The selfless are His flock. The selfish He seeks to reclaim and turn them away from their desires so that they will find a great joy; a joy which cannot be served by selfishness; a joy which can only be found through love of Him and the children of His creation. He is the example of love and all He did and will do expresses His love. Though His hour had not come, when His mother asked that He save the celebration of a wedding day, He did not deny her request. Though He asked her why this should concern Him, He knew her request would come before she asked and He knew the need of the family at hand. She turned the matter over to Him with faith He would answer what she asked of Him.
And so it was that He would turn water to wine for the blessing of a wedding day. The blessing of a wedding is a special day, for the joining of a man and a women begins the formation of a family. Blessed are a man and woman who come together in love, for they have been brought together to share their gifts for the benefit of one another and the generations to come. Not all will receive children, and if they should not, they should pray to what purpose God has ordained for their union. If they ask in prayer, He will guide them and they will know the joy of sharing the blessings He gives.
And if He should bless their union such they become parents, they should pray that He guides them in the building of their family and how to care for the gift He has entrusted to them. Just as they were brought forth from their parents to learn and grow, He has entrusted to them a life so that the child will be guided to share selflessly of the gifts He has placed within. As the generations learn to share of themselves in selflessness and love, blessings shall cover the land and joy will spread from heart to heart. In prayer, we should ask that He guides us so that we do not fall to the temptations of selfishness. In prayer, we should ask that He accepts our thanks and praise for the trust He has placed in us to raise His generations. In prayer, we should ask for His guidance so that we may know how to spread blessings and joy to one another and the generations placed in our care.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
