The Most Holy Child

Scripture:

Arise, be enlightened, O Jerusalem: for your light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold darkness shall cover the earth, and a mist the people: but the Lord shall arise upon you, and his glory shall be seen upon you. And the Gentiles shall walk in your light, and kings in the brightness of your rising. Lift up your eyes round about, and see: all these are gathered together, they are come to you: your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall rise up at your side. Then shall you see, and abound, and your heart shall wonder and be enlarged, when the multitude of the sea shall be converted to you, the strength of the Gentiles shall come to you. The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Madian and Epha: all they from Saba shall come, bringing gold and frankincense: and showing forth praise to the Lord. (Isaiah 60:1-6)

If yet you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me towards you: How that, according to revelation, the mystery has been made known to me.

Which in other generations was not known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit: That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body: and co-partners of his promise in Christ Jesus, by the gospel. (Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6)

When Jesus therefore was born in Bethlehem of Juda, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, saying: Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and are come to adore him. And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And assembling together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born. But they said to him: In Bethlehem of Juda. For so it is written by the prophet: And you Bethlehem the land of Juda are not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of you shall come forth the captain that shall rule my people Israel.

Then Herod, privately calling the wise men learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them; and sending them into Bethlehem, said: Go and diligently inquire after the child, and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I also may come and adore him. Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the East, went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was. And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him: and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having received an answer in sleep that they should not return to Herod, they went back another way into their country. (Matthew 2:1-12)

Reflection:

Each generation is held in the arms of the Lord, His blessings He seeks to bestow upon them. Those who remain by Him shall know the ways of His love. As He is within their hearts, His glory will shine through them. Those who trust in Him will endure in the face of darkness and will prevail in the face of evil. Those who share His Word also share the good news for every soul. Let the children of the world flock to His light, for through Him, their hearts shall be filled with what no wealth of the world may match.

He has chosen those who received His covenant. He spoke to them through His angels and prophets so that they might know what He had planned for them. He has also chosen those who flock to Him, for He seeks to bestow His love upon all the children of His creation.

Because of the hearts which do not know Him, He sent His only begotten Son to the world to bring the completeness of His Word to all the children of His creation. He did it not for just a few, but so every heart may know of His great mercy, His peace and His love. Through His Son, He opened the path to His kingdom for all who believe in the Savior of souls. It is the good news the faithful must not be afraid to share, for through sharing, they help to open hearts to receive the blessings of His ways. The evil one will do everything in his power to silence the Word of the Lord, for if it is not shared, it cannot open hearts. Blessed are those who trust in Him for they shall not be silenced. He will see and forever remember in His heart those who share the gospel of His love.

Those who have hearts filled with treachery cling jealously to what they perceive as their power, no matter how meager it may be. They see only what is before them at the moment, but do not consider the meaning of what it shall mean for their eternity. Some are tempted to believe they may outwit what they do not see and what they do not comprehend. They struggle to keep small treasures, forsaking all which may be received for eternity for that which shall crumble and pass away. So it has been that men and woman of every means and station have brought misery to others and to themselves. They struggle to crush what is so much greater than them. They fail to understand that they gain nothing in the end and that one day they shall wake to receive His judgment.

Fortunately for those who fight against God, He continues to hold out His hand so that they may come to Him and receive the blessings of His warm embrace. The worst of tyrants and the most troubled of souls may turn to Him and receive His healing. This is the reason He sent His only begotten Son to the world, so that through the Son, all may leave evil behind and be cleansed of their sin through the sacrifice of the most Holy Child of God.
