The Spirit of Wisdom and Truth

Scripture:

The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his ways, before he made any thing from the beginning. I was set up from eternity, and of old before the earth was made. The depths were not as yet, and I was already conceived, neither had the fountains of waters as yet sprung out: The mountains with their huge bulk had not as yet been established: before the hills I was brought forth: He had not yet made the earth, nor the rivers, nor the poles of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was present: when with a certain law and compass he enclosed the depths: When he established the sky above, and poised the fountains of waters: When he compassed the sea with its bounds, and set a law to the waters that they should not pass their limits: when be balanced the foundations of the earth; I was with him forming all things: and was delighted every day, playing before him at all times; playing in the world: and my delights were to be with the children of men.

Being justified therefore by faith, let us have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access through faith into this grace, wherein we stand, and glory in the hope of the glory of the sons of God. And not only so; but we glory also in tribulations, knowing that tribulation works patience; and patience trial; and trial hope; and hope confounds not: because the charity of God is poured forth in our hearts, by the Holy Spirit, who is given to us.

I have yet many things to say to you: but you cannot bear them now. But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will teach you all truth. For he shall not speak of himself; but what things soever he shall hear, he shall speak; and the things that are to come, he shall show you. He shall glorify me; because he shall receive of mine, and shall show it to you. All things whatsoever the Father has, are mine. Therefore I said, that he shall receive of mine, and show it to you.
(John 16:12-15)

Reflection:

There is what is, and then, there are fabrications. The fabrications do not come from the mind of God, for He is the Creator of what is, therefore, He is the Creator of truth. He is the One who sees all, for He created all and set all in motion. We, though, have seen only a tiny fraction of time, yet, we presume to know more than the Creator, to reason better than the Creator, yet, we cannot fathom all He has seen, all He knows, and all He has created. This is the fabrication, that our way is better than the ways of the One who calls us to love Him as well as one another. (cf. Matthew 22:36-40)

Those He has sent into the world He knew before He formed them in the womb of their mother. (cf. Jeremiah 1:5) Each one of us He set in motion. Within each one of us, He granted gifts and talents for His purpose. Each one of us, He granted the gift of freewill; the will to say yes and no. His desire is that we may follow His truth and share of it for the blessings of all the children of His creation, but in our arrogance, in our fabrications, too often, the answer is not His will of love, but our will of selfish desire.

In the darkness awaits traps and snares for the soul, yet, rather than pursue the light, we are tempted to travel the darkness. In denial, we turn from the light and all the good which is brought to us through it, so we may pursue the fabrications of the darkness; the fabrication of belief that through pursuing our selfishness, we shall find happiness. Indeed, for a time, we may perceive that the darkness which we pursue and the evils which we spread are desirable and good, but as we travel further and further away from the Heart of ultimate love, what is found in the darkness is the pain and misery of foibles and baubles which cannot console and which make us vulnerable to the one who would lure us away from the blessings of the love and mercy of our Creator.

After we have let go of the hand of our Savior, what are we to do? When we discover our pursuits mire us more and more in sorrow and pain; when we finally admit the mistakes we have made, we are left with the sorrow that we cannot change the path pockmarked by the mistakes of our past, we can only choose in which direction we travel and whose path we walk.

If we have allowed ourselves to be deceived or we have deceived ourselves, our only hope is to find a means to step away from that deceit. In the darkness we cry out. With tears in our heart we pray for a hand to guide us out of the pain so we might feel the warmth and truth of the love of our Creator.

When the day comes where we recognize that we allowed ourselves to be deceived or that we deceived ourselves, and we admit the pain and sorrow of false paths, we may be tempted to abandon hope, but there is One who waits to lead us, despite our failings. He waits for our choice to take His hand. The way to Him is not always easy, but His path is the path of truth and love.

In a world where deception is presented as a skill, as a means to desires, as a means of power; truth is trampled and the path to its blessings is obscured. Our hope is found in that our Creator did not abandon us. Our blessing is that He sent to us the guide to His truth, the One who testifies to the blessings of love poured out to us and to which we are called. Should we decide to open our hearts to Him, He will help us see. He will help us see the true path and the true way to eternal love and eternal life in His holy kingdom.
