What Man, But the Son of God, Could Conquer Death?

Scripture:

God sent the word to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all). You know the word which was published through all Judea: for it began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached. Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things that he did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem: whom they killed, hanging him upon a tree. Him God raised up the third day and gave him to be made manifest, not to all the people, but to witnesses preordained by God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him, after he arose again from the dead. And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that it is he who was appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead. To him all the prophets give testimony, that by his name all receive remission of sins, who believe in him. (Acts 10:36-43)

Therefore if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth. For you are dead: and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ shall appear, who is your life, then you also shall appear with him in glory. (Corinthians 3:1-4)

And on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen came early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher: and she saw the stone taken away from the sepulcher. She ran therefore and comes to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and said to them: They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher: and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple: and they came to the sepulcher. And they both ran together: and that other disciple did outrun Peter and came first to the sepulcher. And when he stooped down, he saw the linen cloths lying: but yet he went not in. Then came Simon Peter, following him, and went into the sepulcher: and saw the linen cloths lying, And the napkin that had been about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but apart, wrapped up into one place. Then that other disciple also went in, who came first to the sepulcher: and he saw and believed. For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. (John 20:1-9)

Reflection:

As it was prophesied, the One who was sent would be the stone rejected. The One who was sent would become the corner stone for the eternal life of all who believes in Him. The moment was ordained and set in time for the salvation of the children of His creation. It was prophesied for generations and it came to pass; the moment where the seed shall die so that it may live and bear fruit many fold through the generations to come.

Who but the Son of God could bear such a task, receiving upon Him the sins of the whole world. Who but the Son of God would have such love for all the children of His creation that He would endure the intense pain, the scourging and death at the hands who rejected Him so that all who would believe in Him could be saved, even those who bore the very whips which stripped His flesh, the hammers which drove the nails to secure Him to the wood, the stem of the spear which would be thrust in His side and who cast lots for His clothes.

Who but the Son of God could endure the onslaught of evil, take the darkness to death and rise again as the light for all to follow. He conquered death to give life to all who sought through Him the forgiveness of the Father. Who, but the Son of God could be the light of the world, the judge of the living and of the dead; the One who would be granted the authority of the Father to forgive the sins for all who believe in Him.

We have our moments in the world, but to what design do we use them? He placed us here for a purpose, but we must look to Him to understand. What we do here is of little consequence, even if we gain the whole world, for the world will pass away; but what we do in fulfillment of the commandments of love will make us part of His eternal legacy of love to the generations. As we lead our lives, we should look to prepare ourselves for when we will be called to stand before Him. When our time here is finished, will we be able to explain to Him what we have to done with the gifts and blessings He has granted us? If we seek to follow the commandments of love, then, we make Him our life and we demonstrate our belief in Him and through that belief, He has offered us salvation.

In our time, we listen to what has been passed to us through the generations. The faith of those who walked before us has led us to Him and to this day, we remember the events past. Could we imagine if we were there and witnessed what was seen by the crowds, what was seen by his disciples, what was seen by those who came to visit His tomb?

Can we truly imagine the horror of those who followed Him as they witnessed His sacrifice? Can we imagine after mourning His death the bewilderment when they found He was no longer in the tomb, for they did not fully comprehend at that time the meaning of the scripture which prophesied His resurrection? They knew a miracle was before them; they knew a different chapter was beginning to unfold, but where it would take them, they did not know.

The generations to follow and generations still to come shall ponder the events and their meaning to each individual. In prayer, we should invite the mystery into our hearts to explore the depths of love poured out for us and the eternal promise offered to us. In prayer, we should offer thanks and praise for what was done for us. In prayer, we should ask for guidance for our daily lives so that we do not allow ourselves to be seduced away from our salvation.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
