The Nicene Creed for Today

Today's serious seeker after truth is confronted with a bewildering array of ideologies, philosophies, and religions--each claiming for itself a particular insight into the truths of life and of God. Some of these schools of thought are newcomers, others have stood the test of time. Among the contenders is the Christian faith, and within that faith there is a bulwark of truth--the Nicene Creed. Although the creed dates from the fourth century, the story of how it was written strikes the modern ear as quite contemporary--an account of people of faith struggling to make sense of their experience of God and fighting half-truths that threatened to ravage the whole Christian enterprise.
