Catholic and Christian apologist Dave Armstrong has posted a dialogue (what he usually does) with an atheist about why many Christians lose their faith when they go to college. You may want to read the posts and comments he refers to before reading the dialogue. Armstrong's a sharp guy and I like his dialogues. He mention in this particular one about the need for young Christians to learn some apologetics before going off to colleges that are fundamentally anti-Christian in their philosophy. I didn't go to a college like that, but I heartily agree that we need to prepare our youth with a defense against the arguments presented in secular society. I speak from personal experience. Apologetics is partly the reason I'm still a Christian.

I would add that they need to understand the arguments themselves, and not just parrot them. That means teaching them to think, which means learning to think ourselves. You can't give what you don't have. You can't teach what you don't know.
