Will We Share the News?

Scripture:

You know the word which has been published through all Judea: for it began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached. Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things that he did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem: whom they killed, hanging him upon a tree. Him God raised up the third day and gave him to be made manifest, not to all the people, but to witnesses preordained by God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him, after he arose again from the dead. And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that it is he who was appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead. To him all the prophets give testimony, that by his name all receive remission of sins, who believe in him.
(Acts 10:34A, 37-43)

Therefore if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth. For you are dead: and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ shall appear, who is your life, then you also shall appear with him in glory.
(Colossians 3:1-4)

And on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen comes early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher: and she saw the stone taken away from the sepulcher. She ran therefore and comes to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and said to them: They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher: and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple: and they came to the sepulcher. And they both ran together: and that other disciple did outrun Peter and came first to the sepulcher. And when he stooped down, he saw the linen cloths lying: but yet he went not in. Then comes Simon Peter, following him, and went into the sepulcher: and saw the linen cloths lying, and the napkin that had been about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but apart, wrapped up into one place. Then that other disciple also went in, who came first to the sepulcher: and he saw and believed. For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
(John 20:1-9)

Reflection:

Many darkened hearts surrounded Him, taunting Him, ?Let Him save himself if He is who He says He is.? Some watched with malice and others with curiosity, but those who knew their Lord, watched helplessly with sorrow. What were they to think as their Messiah perished before them? Though the skies darkened and the earth shook at the injustice, it appeared evil had won. The faithful few knelt at His feet. All which remained with them was their love for their Lord and their trust in Him. What sorrow must have filled their hearts. What helplessness they must have felt.

In their grief and their sorrow, they prayed to understand. They knew not what they were to do next, for they had not yet been commissioned. What were they to do without their Teacher? The moment was overwhelming. They did not fully comprehend the prophecy He taught. Sometimes the student learns, but does not fully understand until they experience the moment for which the Teacher worked to prepare them.

Sometimes, as events unfold, the overload of information causes confusion to reign. So it was for those who mourned, but on the third day, their weeping turned to joy as they found the stone rolled away. Just as the Father had accomplished His will so many times in the face of the darkness of the world, now the Son came to the remnant few. He came to remind them of what He taught them, but as He prepared to go to the Father, He reminded them He would not leave them orphans. (cf. John 14:18-20) He came to them to comfort them, but He also came to them to commission them, (cf. Matthew 28:19) to send them forth to share the good news of the Gospel, to share His message of forgiveness, mercy, and love for all who believe in Him. (cf. John 14:23-24)

They were not perfect; those He sent forth, for even the one who He said would be the rock upon which He would build His church (cf. Matthew 16:18-19) would deny Him three times. (cf. Mark 14:72) They were sinners, they knew they were unworthy; but they were the remnant few of the moment. The question before them now was would they go forth as He asked? Would they share what He taught? Would they call the children of His creation to the Sacred Heart of the Lord? It was the question for them then, and we know their answer. It is now the question before us. It is a question, not about our sin, but our love for Him. In our hearts, we must ask ourselves, are we willing to share and live the good news of the Lord?

Questions for further reflection:

In what ways will we allow Him to use us to share the blessings of His news?

In what ways do we seek what is above over what is on earth?

In what ways do we seek to comprehend and live the Gospel set before us?

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
