I got into an argument with a guy who was (or so he says) deeply Christian, witnessed to everyone he met and was always at church. One day he came to work and was all of a sudden changed. He now believes we were brought here by Aliens acting as God’s transporters or something.
I asked him what brought this sudden turn of events and he told me he got to looking and the bible was full of contradictions. He had found some website out there and it listed several contradictions and the more he surfed the more he found. Thinking that maybe someone was just blowing smoke, or he didn’t understand something, I challenged him. I asked him where the bible contradicts itself. At first he could not come up with anything, so I pressed harder. He finally came up with: “The ten commandments say that we should not worship false gods.” I asked him to explain why that was a contradiction. He replied with “The bible says that God is a kind and loving God, and you can’t love and be jealous.” So the only response I could come up with is, “Well, if your wife left you for another man, would you be jealous?” He agreed that he would be. So I told him that by that same logic, he had no love for his wife. Maybe this wasn’t such a good example as he and his wife divorced later that year.
I heard him preaching his gospel of contradictions message again the other day and still with the same argument. What do I do about him? I think most people would blow him off like a grain of salt, but what if he does actually take people from God?
I am sure there are plenty of arguments for the contradictions in the bible. I have never actually seen a viable argument that shows a true contradiction. They are usually misinterpretations, or someone re-writing scripture to fabricate a contradiction. I would like to help anyone understand these misinterpretations, I would also like to be able to argue more intelligently on these topics. So I would like to challenge anyone to bring me a contradiction, and anyone to bring me an argument for these.
