And so it was written that, “The first shall be last and the last shall be first.” What we do, then, shall not be to advance our name, rather, it should be to advance the will of God.
If one should point at another and exclaim, “He or she has done for another what is right,” it is what we should hope one would say about someone who has acted according to God's will. The person who has acted, though, should not do so for recognition, rather, they should do so because it was right, even if no one noticed. God will know even the simplest acts of kindness. Our reward is not the recognition of our name; our reward is being in communion with the kingdom of God.
That which is good can suddenly turn wrong when what we do is for the wrong reasons. We have been given the gift of ambition to achieve great things. It is good to strive to achieve God's will, but if we seek our own elevation, we have lost sight of the true purpose for which God has bestowed His gifts upon us. The gifts He has given us are to do His will. We must be thankful to the Lord if someone recognizes what we do for another, thankful we have been given such a gift, but we should not forget that it is a blessing when God chooses to work through us. If we think we act without the providence of God, we are destined to fall.
Lord, I thank You for the gifts you have given me. I pray for your guidance and the wisdom to know how to use those gifts to serve Your will. Dear Lord, lead me and guide me in all things. Amen.
