Desire

We are motivated by desire. When we have all that we wish, what then shall motivate us? What shall we do?

In this world, our desires are satisfied at times, and yet, those times may be fleeting. These moments of satisfaction may easily fade and what is left to fill their void? If we seek fulfillment only from the pleasures of this world, we will only find eventual emptiness.

If we truly seek lasting and eternal fulfillment, we will find it though the Holy Spirit, the peace of our Lord, the true water of life offered to us by our Savior.

We may despair in this world because our desires leave us wanting, empty, helpless in the face of evil. But, if we seek the Holy Spirit and bring it into our faith, we become part of the force within this world to spread peace and goodness. We may not have happiness through that which is finite, material, that which will decay and pass; rather, we will find happiness through the Spirit eternal.

As some fall away, only to seek their moment in a finite world, evil will find a foothold. As we join others who seek the eternal Spirit, goodness will spread from person to person, and evil will be contained.

In this world, where each day we face the choices where each of us may do what is right and each of us may do what is wrong, a struggle will exist. Within our imperfections, the evil one will seek to snare us. Blessed are those who fail in a moment or an hour or a day, but in the next, seeks the word of God. Blessed are those who fail , yet seek our Savior's forgiveness, for it was already given when He suffered and died for us on the cross. Blessed are those who fail, but continue to strive to find the way of the Lord. Blessed are those who forgive those who fail, for in their own struggle, they may face their own moment of shortfall.

Lord, in my weakness, I face many moments where I know I will fail you and those around me. I pray for your forgiveness and the forgiveness of all my brothers and sisters. I pray for your mercy and the strength to resist the evil one. You have given us such beauty in the world and such joy in Your Spirit. How is it, then, we are tempted by the emptiness that is the only fruit of Satan's snares? Lord, protect us and deliver us from evil. Let Your goodness pass from person to person. Let Your Spirit surround my family and all our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Lead us all, Lord, to Your salvation, to Your light.
