Those Who Lead and Who Are Led
Scripture:
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron, saying: Behold we are your bone and your flesh. Moreover yesterday also and the day before, when Saul was king over us, you were he that did lead out and bring in Israel: and the Lord said to you: You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel. The ancients also of Israel came to the king of Hebron, and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the Lord: and they anointed David to be king over Israel. (2 Samuel 5:1-3)
Giving thanks to God the Father, who has made us worthy to be partakers of the lot of the saints in light: Who has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love, in whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For in him were all things created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers. All things were created by him and in him. And he is before all: and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may hold the primacy: Because in him, it has well pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell: And through him to reconcile all things unto himself, making peace through the blood of his cross, both as to the things that are on earth and the things that are in heaven. (Colossians 1:12-20)
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers with them derided him, saying: He saved others: let him save himself, if he be Christ, the elect of God. And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, and saying: If you be the king of the Jews, save yourself. And there was also a superscription written over him in letters of Greek and Latin and Hebrew THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. And one of those robbers who were hanged blasphemed him, saying: If you be Christ, save yourself and us. But the other answering, rebuked him, saying: Neither do you fear God, seeing; you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly: for we receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man has done no evil. And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when you shall come into your kingdom. And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to you: This day you shall be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:35-43)
Reflection:
And so it has been through the generations that leaders have come forth for the people so that the people might be led through the blessings and trials of their days. There have been the days of great rulers who stood to protect the rich and the poor, the strong and the weak, the healthy and the afflicted. There have been the days where leaders have stood to lead the land in hope and prosperity and there have been the days of tyrants who savage freedom, levy burdens and oppress. Blessed are the leaders who serve the people, for they fulfill His commandments to love. Blessed are the people who are led by the servant leader who is guided by the Lord for justice and fairness will come from their works.
As the people pray, they should ask that the Holy Spirit will be in the heart of their rulers and that their leaders will be protected from the seductions of evil. The evil one will target the ruler who has the love of God in their heart for such a leader will guide the people as God leads the ruler. The evil one will seek to silence the leader faithful to the Lord, for if the people are led with integrity, responsibility, justice, morality, and the ways of love, then, evil will lose its hold.
Some are anointed as kings or queens, some attain their position through wealth and some seize their position through force. And then there are the nations where the people choose their leaders to govern the land. Who is chosen by the masses is a reflection of the people; a reflection of whether they are united or divided, whether they are selfless or selfish, whether they are responsible or irresponsible, whether they are moral or immoral. The people, then, may appoint the just or the corrupt. If the people are not responsible in who they elect, they will receive the consequences of their decisions and all which will then ripple through the generations.
He gives the gift of leadership, but He also gives the free will as to how such a gift may be used. To all the children of His creation, He gives the gift as to the choices they make. His gifts may be used for purposes of His plan or may be corrupted to evil agendas. Evil will seek to blind and confound the masses so they will not see the corruption of whom they elect until it is too late and harm is done. The faithful must pray that they will be granted the wisdom to see through the deceptions of evil so that they do not appoint wolves in the clothing of sheep.
The children of His creation also have the choice as to who they may follow in thought, word and deed. The people must be careful in what they choose, for if they are not, they will wander to the wrong path. Though evil we seek to seduce all who lead, there is One who cannot be corrupted. Those who know Him and invite Him into their heart will be strengthened in faith and love. Those who follow Him will discover the blessings of His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit. As they allow the Holy Spirit to guide them, blessings will follow to them and those who surround them.
What does the Creator have to prove to His creation? The unknowing mock and jeer. Each day they deny that their life is in His hands. They do not believe that what He gives may be taken away. They do not believe that their destiny is defined by the convictions in their heart. They believe each moment is theirs, but the day will come where they will not be able to deny that He determines eternity. For a time He has left the children of His creation to their choices and the consequences derived from each; but the moment will come where they will see Him and He will ask of them the ultimate choice. In that moment, it will matter not who led the land, but who leads the heart.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
