Though we ascend in years and we experience that which is about us, we only discover how little we know and how much more there is to learn. Should it be a surprise, then, that as our Lord established His church that He gave us means by which we may continue to be exposed to and learn His Word?
With our limited abilities to comprehend, we must study. We cannot leave our understanding to a few moments of conversation or the reading of a verse or two. Though we sit and listen to the sermon, it does not mean that all at once we can comprehend the full meaning of all the words.
He has give us the written word and the clergy to preach the Word. He has given us one another that we may seek to understand the Word by discussing the Word and living the Word. True wisdom is to understand that no matter what we have learned, there is always more. True wisdom is to understand that we cannot truly profess to have learned the Word if we do not also seek to live the Word.
By attempting to live the Word, through what we do and what we fail to do, we come to understand how much we do not know and how much more we must learn. When we fail to understand the Word, we cannot fully live the Word.
How can we demonstrate our belief in the Lord almighty if we do not seek to live His Word? How do we live His Word if we do not seek to learn the Word? How do we learn the Word if we do not study it? How do we study the Word if we do not expose ourselves to it? How do we develop our relationship with God if we do not seek to understand His Word? What do we tell our Lord that we profess our faith, but do not seek to live it through our works?
A faith that is not lived is not a living faith. How best, then, to demonstrate our faith in the Lord and our love for the Lord than to continue to study and learn His word; and to live His Word in that which we do?
Dear Lord, as each day passes and I listen to those who you place in my path, I realize how much more I have yet to learn. Help me to learn and understand Your word. Help me to live Your Word so that my faith continues to grow and live.
Dear Mary, Mother of God, and all the angels and saints; pray with me that if I fail to learn the Word and I fail to live the Word, that God will have patience with me, that He will grant me the strength to turn from my sin so that I may try once more to live in the light and through faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Peace be with you,
Nam Eno
