Thus says the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I, the LORD, your God, teach you what is for your good, and lead you on the way you should go. If you would hearken to my commandments, your prosperity would be like a river, and your vindication like the waves of the sea; your descendants would be like the sand, and those born of your stock like its grains, Their name never cut off or blotted out from my presence. Go forth from Babylon, flee from Chaldea! With shouts of joy proclaim this, make it known; Publish it to the ends of the earth.” (Isaiah 48:17-20)

The message of God for the House of Jacob was that the commandments of the Lord were for their well being, their prosperity, the path they should follow for their own good. The commandments of the Lord are there to help us know how to live with one another, how to live in love and peace and to do no harm. Some view the commandments as difficult, depriving them of personal desires, but if we see their true purpose, we understand the Lord our God looks out for those who follow Him. He is patient for our choice.

The LORD watches over the way of the just, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.” (Psalm 1:6) When we see deceitful people prosper, we may wonder how the Lord might let this be. We think in terms of our time, but if we witness in the whole of time, we would see that wickedness leads to ruin; evil designs may appear to yield fruits for our desires, but instead, they become snares of the soul, traps of darkness and death.

In the shortness of time, we may wonder what do we gain by avoiding sin, but if we look at the whole of all the children of God, the wholeness of time, by caring for one another, we provide for the good of all. By seeking to give rather than take, we find we receive many blessings of good will through our thoughtful deeds and charity. For some, it is difficult to see beyond what is near, but God asks us to see the whole of time.

Jesus said, “To what shall I compare this generation? It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another, “We played the flute for you, but you did not dance, we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.” For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said, “He is possessed by a demon.” The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said, “Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” But wisdom is vindicated by her works.” (Matthew 11:16-19)

We are divided in our views, divided by our interpretations of the letter of the law; blinded to the spirit of the commandments which is rooted in love. If we understand we are called to love and it was through love our Lord and Savior sacrificed Himself for our sins, we then understand the basis of the commandments, the prophecy and all the teachings of our Lord.

What the Lord commands is for our peace and joy, but more importantly for our salvation beyond this time. Blessed are we for the sacrifice made for us; with shouts of joy we should make the good news known to the four directions of the world.

May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
