Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak, say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication; with divine recompense he comes to save you. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, the ears of the deaf be cleared; then will the lame leap like a stag, then the tongue of the mute will sing.” (Isaiah 35:3-6)

We are told of the coming of the Lord and what He will bring. We will see signs of the afflicted being healed, we will see justice in ways beyond man. There is hope in His coming; but the hope is beyond this world, for the truest hope is that for the eternity to come.

When John heard in prison of the works of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to him with this question, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?” Jesus said to them in reply, ”Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.” (Matthew 11:2-6)

The prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus; he healed those with afflictions, but the healing was only a sign of the true healing to come. The afflictions of the body are only of this world, but it is the afflictions of the soul for which we should be truly concerned. Health of the body is meaningless if the soul is consumed with the afflictions of sin.

The poor have the good news proclaimed to them, but it is not the signs that the sick may be healed that is the good news to proclaim, rather, it is that the affliction of sins may be forgiven. Our greatest hope is not that our physical ills should be washed away, but that the impurity of our sins may be forgiven and cleansed from our souls.

Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not complain, brothers, about one another, that you may not be judged. Behold, the Judge is standing before the gates. Take as an example of hardship and patience, brothers, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. (James 5:8-10)

Daily, we may see injustice. We may wonder how it is that evil may flow through some without consequence; but what happens in this world will not escape without notice. Those who are persecuted will be vindicated and those who persecute will be held to account. Blessed is the one who seeks to live in love and banish evil from their path, for their reward will be with the Lord. Let us spread the good news of our salvation.

May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
