“Woe to the city, rebellious and polluted, to the tyrannical city! She hears no voice, accepts no correction; in the LORD she has not trusted, to her God she has not drawn near. Her princes in her midst are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the night that have had no bones to gnaw by morning. Her prophets are insolent, treacherous men; her priests profane what is holy, and do violence to the law.” (Zephania 3:1-4)
What comfort is there for citizens of the land when the leaders become corrupt? Who remains secure in their home? Who can protect their family? What happiness is left for the children? What meaning is there to pursue? If the leaders of a nation fall to evil, then, what hope is there for its people?
“For then will I remove from your midst the proud braggarts, And you shall no longer exalt yourself on my holy mountain. But I will leave as a remnant in your midst a people humble and lowly, who shall take refuge in the name of the LORD; the remnant of Israel. They shall do no wrong and speak no lies; nor shall there be found in their mouths a deceitful tongue; They shall pasture and couch their flocks with none to disturb them.” (Zephania 3:11-13)
The Lord is patient for us to learn, but how long will He allow the corrupt to pursue their ways? Prophecy tells us nations will be humbled, oppressors shall be held to account; it will be the faithful the Lord will invite to inherit the land. As they set the example of which others shall see, the Lord will have mercy and will extend His protective hand for the remnant few. Blessed are they who lead their lives in the ways of the Word so that others may seek to follow, but the choice will be to each person as to whether they become the wheat or the chafe.
“What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, “Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.” He said in reply, “I will not,” but afterwards he changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, “Yes, sir,” but did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They answered, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.” (Matthew 21:28-32)
And so it is that sinners will become faithful and those who profess faith may fall to sin. The message of the Lord is clear, those who hear the Word and heed that to which we are called will find salvation even though we may have once failed. Those, however, who seek their own designs, those who ignore the truth of the Word shall find they will be left in darkness. The choice is to each; blessed are those who seek to follow the path of the Lord for in the news of His coming will they find great joy. Let us look with glory and praise for the coming of the Lord.
May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
