Anguish has taken wing, dispelled is darkness; for there is no gloom where but now there was distress. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone.” (Isaiah 8:23, 9:1)

The children of the Lord walk many paths, but there is only one path to the light while the others are mere distractions which lead to darkness. Where there is darkness, there is fear and anguish for in darkness there is no purpose; where there is no purpose, for what do we have hope? In the darkness, our pursuits are empty and void for the ending is eventually nothingness.

There is a light over which the darkness cannot overcome. It is a great light of hope, for as it removes the gloom of darkness a great purpose is found. Through the root of Jesse, a child of the house of David, a light brightly shines. We find in the light the purest message that we are called to serve and love one another.

“I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and in the same purpose. For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers, by Chloe\'s people, that there are rivalries among you. I mean that each of you is saying, “I belong to Paul,” or “I belong to Apollos,” or “I belong to Cephas,” or “I belong to Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I give thanks (to God) that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, so that no one can say you were baptized in my name. (I baptized the household of Stephanas also; beyond that I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with the wisdom of human eloquence, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its meaning.” (1 Corinthians 1:10-17)

We are called to become one in the body of Christ. We are called to love one another as God loves us. For us to exercise love, should we not seek to remove the divisions which drive wedges between us? Why, then, are there so many paths of Christianity? Is it Christ we follow that leads us to walk in so many different directions?

Across the populations of many lands and languages, we might expect different traditions for the worship of our Lord, but what do we see amongst ourselves when one bears false witness as to the beliefs of another? When our differences become the source of division amongst ourselves, who does it serve?

There is what is of God and what is of man. It is the agendas of men which cause us to question or dismiss the true and complete meaning of what Christ sought to teach us. We must listen carefully to what we are preached, for if it is based in love, it is rooted in God. If it is based in falsehoods or to sow division, we should know that it comes from the designs of the evil one.

As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him. (Matthew 4:18-22)

If He called us today, would we drop everything to follow him? Would we burn with the desire to learn all that He might teach us or would we seek our own satisfactions by our own agendas? Would we seek to understand the true meaning of the Word or would we argue the meaning of every single word as did the Pharisees and the Scribes? Would we pray for wisdom from the power of the Holy Spirit or seek to be wise by our own estimation?

Upon Peter, Jesus built His church. He sent His apostles to preach the gospel so that we might all know the meaning of the Word and the salvation which is ours through His sacrifice. Through the succession of the apostles, the Word has been spread through the generations. The Word is before us, but we must still pray to understand, we must pray that we are not deceived by false prophets, we must pray that we are not led astray by tangents of the truth which only serve to set us one against the other; for it is through divisions which the evil one seeks to separate the children of God from their Creator.

Blessed are those who follow the message of the love of God and His call for us to love one another, for through those who follow the new commandment to love one another we find the way, the truth and the light and we will have the opportunity for peace in our day.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
