Rising very early he went up the mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, carrying with him the stone tablets. And when the Lord was come down in a cloud, Moses stood with him, calling upon the name of the Lord. And when he passed before him, he said, “O the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, patient and of much compassion, and true.” And Moses making haste, bowed down prostrate unto the earth, and adoring, said, “If I have found grace in thy sight: O Lord, I beseech you, that you will go with us, (for this is a stiff necked people,) and take away our iniquities and sin, and possess us. (Exodus 34:4-6, 8-9)

On a mountain, God spoke to Moses, conveying commandments of love. What God commands of us is not to enslave us, rather He seeks to free us from the ravages of evil. That which we are commanded to do and not to do is a matter of living in love of one another. It is when we do evil to each other that we find conflict, hate, and violence which leads to strife, misery and death. The commandments of God are to lead us away from the harm we are tempted to do in fulfillment of our own selfish desires.

If we are consumed by selfishness, we will never find true happiness for selfishness is shallow and empty. What may please us for the moment is gone in an instant and we are constantly left wanting. We will never be satisfied if we only seek the reward of our own desire. Moses knew that it is the stubbornness of the people which causes us to try and make our own rules, to ignore God and all which He tries to teach us. Moses knew that without God, the people would be consumed by sin and would destroy themselves through their selfishness. It is for this reason he pleaded with the Lord to travel with them so that they could be purged of that which drove divisions and misery among them.

God continues to call His children to a more perfect way, a way of love, a way of selflessness, for as we do for one another, we extend ourselves through those we love and our love of God. Our reward is not only peace in our day, but we prepare for the peace and joy of the next. In prayer, we should ask the Holy Spirit into our hearts that He might lead and guide us as Moses asked God to remain with his people to lead and guide them away from their sin and iniquities. Blessed are those who offer themselves to God for they will be embraced with His love.

For the rest, brethren, rejoice, be perfect, take exhortation, be of one mind, have peace; and the God of peace and of love shall be with you. Salute one another with a holy kiss. All the saints salute you. (2 Corinthians 13:11-13)

We are called to peace, yet, through sin, we fall to divisions. In selfishness, we justify what we do, not caring for the pain and suffering our actions may cause others. It is through selfishness people rise in conflict, it is through selfishness we are tempted to take the very lives of our children while they are still in the womb. Is it so difficult for us to do what is right in search of peace and love? It is not if we seek the help of the Lord. In prayer, if we ask to be washed of our iniquities, He will guide us to a better way. As we place ourselves in His hands, we will find the strength to leave selfishness behind.

As we build good will among all, there is so much to be gained for we bring the peace of heaven to our own hearts. It is the deceptions of the world which pull us away from His path. When we turn to selfishness, we allow ourselves to be deceived, we rationalize all which causes harm, we justify evil, we rob ourselves of the peace which God offers to us.

Let us, then, turn to one another in selflessness and offer our hands in harmony. Let us, then, seek peace through the Holy Spirit so that as we are fulfilled in God, we fulfill one another. Let us, then, do that to which Jesus called us, to love one another as He loves us. Let us, then, offer thanks and praise for the Word He gave us to guide us to love.

For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believes in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting. For God sent not his Son into the world, to judge the world, but that the world may be saved by him. He that believes in him is not judged. But he that does not believe, is already judged: because he believes not in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ( John 3:16-18 )

Through the generations, some have come to understand what God asks of His children, but others have remained stubborn, seeking to be true to their own selfish desires. From generation to generation we have remained a stiff necked people, falling to the ravages and misery of our sin. It is the great love and mercy of God that He seeks to save His children from their sins, but it would have no meaning if He did not make it their choice; our choice. He gave us freewill to chose our path, but to save us from ourselves, He sent His only begotten Son so that we might not perish. Jesus was not only sent to teach us the Word which embodies the grace, mercy and love of God, but He was also sent in sacrifice for our sins.

If we believe in Him, we will turn from that which separates us from God and will be forgiven our faults in what we have done and what we have failed to do; but if we do not, we will fall to an eternal misery. His blood was spilled for the many who seek to free themselves from their imperfections and turn to God. His sacrifice is so that we may be forgiven of our sins, so that if we believe in Him, we will not fall to eternal destruction. Blessed are those who believe, for not all will follow. Blessed are those who respond to His call for not all will hear. Blessed are those who seek His hand, for not all will see what is extended to them.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
