Learning From the Voice Sent by God
Scripture:
The Lord your God will raise up to thee a PROPHET of your nation and of your brethren like unto me: him you shall hear: As you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb, when the assembly was gathered together, and said: Let me not hear any more the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see any more this exceedingly great fire, lest I die. And the Lord said to me: They have spoken all things well. I will raise them up a prophet out of the midst of their brethren like to thee: and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. And he that will not hear his words, which he shall speak in my name, I will be the revenger. But the prophet, who being corrupted with pride, shall speak in my name things that I did not command him to say, or in the name of strange gods, shall be slain. ( Deuteronomy 18:15-20 )
But I would have you to be without solicitude. He that is without a wife is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord: how he may please God. But he that is with a wife is solicitous for the things of the world: how he may please his wife. And he is divided. And the unmarried woman and the virgin thinks on the things of the Lord: that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she that is married thinks on the things of the world: how she may please her husband. And this I speak for your profit, not to cast a snare upon you, but for that which is decent and which may give you power to attend upon the Lord, without impediment. ( 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 )
And they entered into Capharnaum: and forthwith upon the sabbath days going into the synagogue, he taught them. And they were astonished at his doctrine. For he was teaching them as one having power, and not as the scribes. And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, saying: What have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God. And Jesus threatened him, saying: Speak no more, and go out of the man. And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying out with a loud voice, went out of him. And they were all amazed insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying: What thing is this? What is this new doctrine? For with power he commands even the unclean spirits: and they obey him. And the fame of him was spread forthwith into all the country of Galilee. ( Mark 1:21-28 )
Reflection:
We seek to hear the voice of the Lord, but are we equally willing to obey what we hear? His Word has come to us through angels and prophets, but many are still deaf to His Words, blind to what He asks us to see. We are tempted to believe that our ways are wiser than His. Though our time is short, we fall to the temptation of pride which comes from our limited reference. We believe that because we have learned some things, we know all things.
Only He has existed from the time of forever. Only He has seen and sees that which has failed and that which is the perfect way. Should we not seek to learn from Him, the creator of all? When we become wise in our own eyes, we become foolish. When we seek to understand His Word, we begin to shed our foolishness.
The evil one seeks for us to remain blind, to not heed the Word. So much is placed in our path to deceive us, to tempt us to walk ways different than His ways. In prayer we should ask to be protected from deception and guided to the true light of His Word.
As we concern ourselves with the trials of each day, it is easy to find ourselves distracted such that we fail to remember who is truly with us. Each child of His creation is called to a vocation, whether it be in service of the flock or to join in matrimony to serve in the vocation of the family. He made us male and female so that we may bring souls into the world, but he also made us male and female so that we may care for those same souls along with the soul who joined with us in the miracle of creation granted to us by God.
As we perform the vocation to which we have been called, we must not forget that we are not alone, but through Him we may face any trial set before us. That which we attempt to face by ourselves may easily overwhelm us, but that with which we ask Him to help us face will become bearable. What is impossible for us is always possible for God. He may let us struggle for a time to learn this lesson, but even mightiest shall fall if they do not first have trust in Him.
Blessed are those who respond to the call of religious life, for if they are truly focused upon Him, they will perform His works. Blessed are those who respond to the vocations of the family, for they will have a hand in raising the generations. No matter the call, let us serve selflessly so that we do not boast of our accomplishments, rather offer thanks and praise for the talents He has granted us to perform His work. Let us ask in prayer that we may be focused upon the ways of the Lord, for as we walk in His ways, we remove many sources of misery which afflict the world.
We continue to examine His Word; some understanding, others twisting to their own agendas, some perverting to deceive the faithful. The Son of God spoke with the authority of God for He spoke the truth of God. We can but marvel at the wisdom of what He taught.
As the children of His creation, we should seek to learn His ways. The wisdom we should seek is the blessings of living in faith of Him and seeing through the deceptions of the evil one. In prayer, we should ask that our eyes not be clouded by this world, but are clean to see the brightness and joyful peace found only through His grace, mercy and love. If every soul were raised to Him, there would be no war, there would be no conflict, there would be no greed, there would be no place for evil to walk among us. As the children of His creation, we should seek to hear His voice, for what we hear will be a blessing to our soul.
His authority extends to all creation, therefore, it extends to all the children of His creation. Some may believe they may walk their own way and suffer their own consequences, but what they do is not upon them alone. We must consider that our choice of whether to accept Him or turn from Him will impact those around us and those around them, rippling throughout communities, cities and nations.
The example we set will be observed by others. Those who turn their back upon Him will be held accountable and they will also be held accountable for all the others who may follow the example set. Blessed are they who understand His ways and faithfully live according to His Word, for they will bless those who surround them and set the example for others to follow to hear His voice and see His light.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
