“Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me; And suddenly there will come to the temple the LORD whom you seek, And the messenger of the covenant whom you desire.” (Malachi 3:1)
How many ways has God tried to speak to us? He spoke through the holy ones and the prophets, but only the ways of a few were changed. He wrote His commandments in stone and some took heed while others did not. So it was told that the Lord would send a messenger to herald His way.
“When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.” ( Luke 1:57-58 )
In that time, John was born; one who was called the baptizer, a voice that would cry out in the desert to make way for the coming of the Lord. Some heard and wondered, but others chose to ignore the message, not understanding or believing that which was about to come their way. Sinners would listen to him and ask what should they do in preparation of the coming of their Lord? John would tell them to make straight their paths.
Who are we compared to the people of old? Would we have listened if we did not know what we know now? If we were in that day and one who was called a baptizer walked before us and queried us, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?” what would we have done? What would we do if we heard such a message today?
Through many ways the Lord seeks to communicate with us. Through the scripture He inspired and the church He built upon the rock called Peter, He has made the Word available to us. In prayer we may reflect, in our heart we may feel the meaning of the Word. His message is a blessing for the ages, it is a message of love; His love for us and His call for us to love one another.
The Word is divine, the Word is the light for our path to Him. As we prepare to celebrate the coming of the Lord, let us take time to pray and give thanks and praise for the Word of the Lord.
May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
