It was over water that the people of Moses tested their God, for in their thirst, they questioned if God was with them. It was over water Jesus spoke with a woman at a well, but the water of which He spoke was not the water that briefly quenched the thirst of the people of Moses, rather it is the water which will quench the thirst of the soul.
In this world; food, water, air, and shelter are all basic needs through which our life is sustained. In our daily journey, we cannot ignore these needs, but whatever we find through which such needs are fulfilled is only temporary. No matter how much we store, at some point, it will become meaningless, for our time here will end. What then will sustain us?
Jesus told his disciples, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work.” (John 4:34) Through prayer, we may learn of the food and water which is not of this world, but that which will sustain us through eternity. In prayer, we may ask for the everlasting water given by our Lord and the food which will forever sustain the soul. Blessed are we that through the sacrifice of the sinless, the sinful are offered the eternal food of salvation.
Dear Lord, forgive us when, through our impatience driven by our wants within this world, we seek to test You.
Dear Lord, help us to understand all the blessings which are ours through You.
Dear Lord, help us to drink fully of the everlasting water of life.
Dear Lord, grant us the wisdom of the Holy Spirit so that we see and avoid the misery which is driven through the temptations of the world.
Dear Lord, we pray that you cleanse us of our sins so that we may come to enjoy the everlasting purity of Your kingdom.
Dear Lord, we thank You for the sacrifice made by the sinless for the sinful.
Dear Lord, we pray that You help us to spread the peace, love and joy granted to us through the Holy Spirit so that all may choose to share in Your blessings.
In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Jesus said to her, “Every one who drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)
