He Is Within Those He Sends

Scripture:

But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looking up steadfastly to heaven, saw the glory of God and Jesus standing on the right hand of God. And he said: Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. And they, crying out with a loud voice, stopped their ears and with one accord ran violently upon him. And casting him forth without the city, they stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, invoking and saying: Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And falling on his knees, he cried with a loud voice, saying: Lord, lay not this sin to their charge: And when he had said this, he fell asleep in the Lord. And Saul was consenting to his death. (Acts 7:55-60)

Behold, I come quickly: and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to his works. I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are they that wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb: that they may have a right to the tree of life and may enter in by the gates into the city.

I, Jesus, have sent my angel, to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and stock of David, the bright and morning star. And the spirit and the bride say: Come. And he that hears, let him say: Come. And he that thirsts, let him come. And he that will, let him take the water of life, freely. He that gives testimony of these things, says: Surely, I come quickly: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20)

And not for them only do I pray, but for them also who through their word shall believe in me. That they all may be one, as you, Father, in me, and I in you; that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that you have sent me. And the glory which you have given me, I have given to them: that, they may be one, as we also are one. I in them, and you in me: that they may be made perfect in one: and the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them, as you have also loved me. Father, I will that where I am, they also whom you have given me may be with me: that they may see my glory which you have given me, because you have loved me before the creation of the world. Just Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you. And these have known that you have sent me. And I have made known your name to them and will make it known: that the love wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them. (John 17:17-26)

Reflection:

This is the sadness of the generations, that while His love is abundantly before them, the people rise up, filled with rages of evil, and reject Him and those who follow His truth. We might wonder, how is it we do not learn the lessons of so many generations past who turned away from His grace? How is it each generation struggles to understand the truth of His love and forgiveness? How is it each generation refuses His call to live in forgiveness, charity and love? (Ephesians 4:31-32, Colossians 3:12-17) How is it that divisions consume us and fill our hearts with rage and enmity towards one another? How is it that even those who preach to one another the blessings of His love are so easily tempted to judge and condemn when He told us such was not our place (Matthew 7:1-3, Luke 6:37) and that all judgment of souls was turned over to the Son by the Father? (John 5:22-30)

This is the mischief of the evil one, to set tongues wagging against one another. It is the means by which he sows divisions. It is the means by which contempt and hate are fertilized to grow into harmful conflict and potentially even into violence and wars.

We might ask, who is served by our divisions and why do we give in so easily to cast forth words of poison before we find words of healing? How is it we find it so difficult to reconcile with our brother as Jesus sought to instruct us? (Matthew 5:21-26, Matthew 18:15-20) It is because the evil one works day and night to blind us to the wisdom of the Word of the Lord. Satan works tirelessly to seduce us away from it. He closes our ears to the truth of God. The evil one uses our desires and our passions against us so we will not see the blessings we might receive if all would follow the commandments of God to love. The dark one incites us to persecute those who would give us the truth of God and confuses us with prophets and preachers of lies. (Jeremiah 5:20-31, Jeremiah 23:9-32, Ezekiel 13:1-16, Matthew 7:15-20, Acts 7:51-53, 2 Timothy 4:3-4)

No matter what the people desire to make as their truth, the truth of the Creator remains as it is. We cannot undo it by simply closing our eyes or plugging our ears. We may say to one another, we do not need the commandments to love for we will determine for ourselves what is right and just. Many fail to see that the means and ends selected by people without His guidance constantly yield misery and strife. Indeed, peoples, leaders and nations follow such paths every day; but the truth of God remains the truth, no matter how deaf or blind the generations choose to remain. We cannot escape His judgment by proclaiming He should be only as we wish Him to be or to proclaim He does not exist. He is as He has ever been, is now and ever shall be.

So it is, the generations live their days. Those that turn from Him shall reap the rewards of the abyss, but those who turn to Him shall be forgiven their transgressions and cleansed so they may enter His kingdom where love reigns and evil is not allowed to follow. It is the Lord who calls us. Let us listen carefully for His voice and respond to His call.

So the world might hear, Jesus sent forth those He taught. So the generations to follow might also hear, He established His church (Matthew 16:18-19) and blessed it with the Holy Spirit (John 14:26) so His Word shall be received and shared unto the last generation.

As we invite the Holy Spirit within our hearts, we also receive the responsibility to share Him with those who cross our path. We do this best, not by our words, but by what we do. If necessary, we must be prepared to explain the reason for our hope (1 Peter 3:14-17), but in doing so, we must have patience and loving determination for there is one who seeks to undo the work of the Son. We must be mindful of the one who walks ahead of us and behind us with the objective to lure souls away to false hopes and the path to darkness. As Jesus prayed for those He sent forth to spread His light unto the world and for all who might receive the blessings of His Word, let us pray that He will guide us in how we may help spread His good news and all the blessings of His grace, mercy and love.
